I can think of four producers I’ve worked with in my career that I would go into oncoming traffic for if it meant getting them onto my projects. I trust them so completely. A good producer is worth their weight in gold. However…
Another hellworld producer: a person who believes their subjective opinion on qualitative matters is more important than the ICs doing the work / on par with discipline leads.
Another hellworld producer: a person who micromanages IC schedules like a guard monitoring a prison yard.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, sucks more than a producer who doesn’t realize they actually want to be a designer or writer, etc. When this happens it screws up feedback, communication, team morale, and leads to a lot of wasted time. Sucks so much.
or a producer who DOES realize that but also realizes that other people don’t believe them to have the skills…
This this this. I think switching and learning new disciplines is a good thing! I never want to shut that down. I’ve crossed disciplines many times. But there are many people don’t want to put in the work and years of training to learn the skillset they yearn for so they just hover. The worst.
