Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse
Bookstore in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Established 2021.
Let the lie come into the world; let it even triumph. But not through me.
- Reposted by Samizdat Bookstore and TeahouseMutual Aid by Dean Spade is free on Libro for the next week (until 2/2). We know that books can't fix everything, but they can help us show up for and strengthen our communities. Our employee book club read this last year, leading to a great discussion. We hope that it helps others do the same 💗 ⏬
- Samizdat is powerful. When we named our bookstore we did so in honor of the ordinary people who pushed back against totalitarianism. Also, the name serves as our daily reminder that it is our duty, as ordinary people, to push back in whatever ways we can.

Before it disappears!’) makes me feel like I’m in the Soviet Union and just got some black market foreign newspaper I need to hide under a floorboard in my house. This is where America is now
- Be evil and gift books this holiday season.
- We are absolutely not the same.
- Supper club is every Monday from 5-8pm. Get a big bowl of vegan and gluten free beans for $7 or $5 or nothing, whatever you can pay. Also, bring your bookworm brigade bag and get 20% off of all retail items you can fit inside!
- Our local bookstore @samizdatbookstore.bsky.social is hosting Monday night supper club. It’s cheap or free if you can’t pay at all. This is why we need bookstores: they’re not just a shop, they’re a community space. There were over 20 people tonight. And we all sat together and talked and ate.
- Everything is wrong with this, but on a purely selfish note from a Northern New Mexico bookstore, IAIA is a robust pipeline for authors and poets in addition to being a local information resource. When I’m in the plaza area I talk to their staff (and buy books) and get great recommendations.
- Losing IAIA will be such an enormous blow to the region it’s difficult to contemplate.
- The second most popular teenager purchase today (#1 being boba) was the Smithsonian edition of The Constitution of the United States of America.
- The authors of Banned Book Club will be participating in the Pajarito Literary Festival (remotely) May 10th. We have lots of copies of Banned Book Club in store now!

- Reposted by Samizdat Bookstore and TeahouseLit Fest tickets are on sale! We have 12 confirmed authors, poets, and artists doing speaking engagments and signings ranging from talks on folklore and banned books, to discussions with local children's authors! Whew, can we do it folks? I think we can! www.losalamosartscouncil.org/pajarito-lit
- We have books on all sorts of topics. Someone asked us today if we have a banned books section and we were like that’s the whole store.
- It’s been our general philosophy that when it’s, for example, Black History Month, we should simply be able to go to the stacks and pull relevant books and make a display, no special orders needed. If we can’t do that, we’ve slipped up along the way and need to reevaluate our ordering.
- Anyway, we’ll continue to do our best to reflect our pluralistic society. And all of us need to be ready to loudly and vehemently defend our public libraries from the type of censorship occurring in places like Fort Campbell.
- Reposted by Samizdat Bookstore and TeahouseValentine’s is coming! Parents need a night out and a night off. Also, the world is on fire! and we all want to do *something*. These two events aren’t related in anything but proximity of timing, but we’re not going to let that stop us! lasteamlab.com/shop/parent-...
- Also tea. Much of our tea comes from Canadian distributors. We got a big order across the border a couple days ago. But we can’t order massive stock in advance. We don’t know what this means for pricing yet. We are not raising prices in advance, though :)
- Blurbs are almost entirely useless and when a cover is particularly beautiful the presence of a blurb ruins it. Unless that blurb is “Daddy’s diary definitely delivers.” Which is on a book we received this week. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...
- Bookshop is now doing e-books! When you use Bookshop for your online purchases and choose us as your beneficiary, it has a significant impact. We will use the Q4 payment at the end of January to cover a week of payroll. We are so grateful for your support. bookshop.org/ebooks
