Cat Eccles MP
Labour MP for Stourbridge
Labour Cllr for Wollaston & Stourbridge Town
First ODP in Parliament
Cat lady 😸
- Local members in Gorton & Denton should choose their candidate, not the Labour NEC. Blocking Andy Burnham from putting his case to members looks like a factional stitch‑up. Party democracy matters, and shutting out local voices undermines it. The NEC should rethink and return the choice to members.
- 🚄✅Last night I was proud to vote for Labour's Railways Bill. 🇬🇧Great British Railways is about integration not ideology, service not shareholders. And we must always keep the workforce at its heart.
- Reposted by Cat Eccles MP- A 100,000 drop in net migration costs us £7bn - Scrapping the two-child benefit cap costs us £3bn What gets more attention? James O’Brien says 'we have become a ludicrous country'.
- Things that aren't scary - catching a train. Things that are scary - the idea of removing staff from trains to save a few quid. I've raised this before in relation to the Great British Railways Bill and will keep doing so. Thank you to all rail staff who do an amazing job every day.
- Yesterday I voted against Nigel Farage's Bill to drag Britain out of the European Convention of Human Rights. Leaving the ECHR won't stop a single boat nor secure our borders, but it would make us all less safe.
- Hooligans rioting? Bring them to Birmingham 🤦🏻♀️
- Today I joined the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) protesting government changes to the Skilled Worker visa scheme which threatens the future of rail and tube staff. I have written to the Foreign Secretary urging her to press pause on this cruel policy.
- We need to be strong on climate leadership. This cross party letter tells the Tories how very wrong they are on this.
- For ~20yrs the Climate Change Act has powered clean growth & climate action Proud to co-ordinate 124 MPs & Peers to urge the Conservatives, don’t scrap it Turning climate leadership into a political football puts our economy, security & children’s future at risk #ClimateAction
- I'm shocked and appalled by reports of attacks at a Manchester Synagogue on the Holy Day of Yom Kippur. 4 people reported injured and police have shot dead the assailant. My thoughts are with those affected and their loved ones.
- Last week I signed a letter highlighting attacks on the Global Sumud Flotilla. Now Israel has illegally intercepted the Flotilla in international waters, abducting British citizens and seizing ships sailing under British flags. The govt must condemn this attack and demand their immediate release.
- Reposted by Cat Eccles MPLFPME’s statement on the UK Government’s formal recognition of the State of Palestine ⬇️ /🧵 [1/7]
- Malicious communications? 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...
- Labour's Employment Rights Bill passed in the Commons last night, despite attempts by Tories and Reform to water it down. This is huge news for workers rights and only Labour is on the side of workers.
- Reposted by Cat Eccles MPDid you know that private train leasing companies made over £400 million in profits in 2023? @catecclesmp agrees that we should end the rolling stock rip-off. Get your MP to read our vision for the railways bill report today. 👇
- Congrats Lucy! Proud to have helped get you on the ballot 💖
- Heading back to Westminster today it was lovely to see the new autumnal post box topper at Stourbridge Junction, featuring everyone's favourite @george-station-cat.bsky.social 🧡 Well done to the ever talented Crafting For Communities ! I love the little hedgehogs 🦔
- I welcome the sanctions announced today on those linked to the Kremlin's policy of forced deportation and 'russification' of Ukrainian children. At a meeting with Ukrainian experts and mothers last year I heard harrowing stories of loss, and the damage caused to these children. Bring them home.
- Yesterday started early on the picket line with members from @pcsunion.bsky.social Palace of Westminster Security Department. As MP's we rely heavily on these people who simply do not deserve to see their working terms and conditions attacked.
- Lies, lies and more damn lies. How is he allowed to spread this nonsense? The judgement explicitly stated that ECHR was not considered in the ruling.
- Yesterday the IDF bombed Nasser Hospital in Gaza, not just once, but twice, killing rescuers and journalists who rushed to help. Ceasefire, release all hostages, sanction the Israeli govt, trade, and all arms sales now. Photo - Journalist Maryam Abu Daqa, killed yesterday at Nasser Hospital
- Today marks 80 years since VJ day. We remember all those who served in the military in the Pacific and the Far East. The RAF Red Arrows will be flying over Stourbridge between 1:08 and 1:14pm - keep your eyes on the skies!
- Reposted by Cat Eccles MPTireless lobbying making the case for PGDs to be extended to #ODPs by codp.org.uk finally paying off. Key support from @cateccles.bsky.social and Mike Donnellon, College President. Make sure you comment AND join your professional body making it happen👌 www.gov.uk/government/c...
- I've joined colleagues writing to the PM about more than 80 students in Gaza who've won places at UK universities. Sadly they are being prevented by an administrative hurdle to provide biometric data for student visas. There is no Visa Application Centre in Gaza that can record their biometric data.
- These students have overcome horrific circumstances to gain university places and we must not allow them to be held back by bureaucracy. We are encouraging the Prime Minister to defer biometric checking for these students until they reach Egypt or Jordan.
- I have written to the govt about this debacle which has left 1000s of drivers without transport. The handling of this recall has been abysmal and Citroen and Stellantis need to do better to support customers.
- Citroen urged to fix 'chaotic' recall and pay compensation to affected drivers news.sky.com/story/citroe...
- Reposted by Cat Eccles MPTo mark International Cat Day, West Midlands Railway has officially named one of its Shuttle trains after Meownself Thank you Cat Eccles MP for unveiling It is an absolute honour and a very special privilege Thank you West Midlands Railway www.westmidlandsrailway.co.uk/about-us/new...
- International Cat Day was the paw-fect choice to officially name one of the Stourbridge Shuttle trains after our wonderful George the station cat 🧡😺 Thank you George for letting me join you and Dad Ian for the unveiling, you were such a good boy. Now we need to name the other shuttle! Any ideas?
- Fantastic news for Chiltern Railways and their passengers. I worked with Chiltern to lobby the Secretary of State for funding for new carriages and we got the result we wanted! I'll continue to work with Chiltern, Network Rail and local residents to address noise issues at the Stourbridge depot.
- I'm pleased the Government has moved on recognition of Palestine, but what will be left by September? There are no hospitals to treat refeeding syndrome, which will inevitably result when starved people start eating again. Aid and healthcare must be a priority now.

- Champions of Europe, again! ♥️🏴🏆 Huge congratulations to England's women who've brought it home in the most spectacular way, even if our nerves are shattered! What a tournament!
- ⚽SUPPORT OUR LIONESSES ⚽ Wow, another great campaign from our Lionesses and now I am so excited to see they're in YET ANOTHER FINAL! I'm putting my faith in the ladies to bring it home again and I urge you all to show your support for what has been a brilliant run full of highs and emotion!
- I've compiled a selection of personal highlights, showcasing some of my favourite work I have partaken in over the last twelve months. Here is a shot from my Maiden Speech in November, where I had the opportunity to talk about how amazing our constituency is to the entire house!
- I am one of the 221 cross party MPs who have signed Sarah Champion's letter to the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary calling for the immediate recognition of the State of Palestine.
- My one year leaflet has landed! These will be making their way to your door in the coming weeks. It's hard to believe it's been a year already but here's stats from the last 12 months:
- ✅£150000 retrieved for constituents ✅200+ visits meeting stakeholders across the constituency ✅Millions in funding secured for local NHS, schools and infrastructure ✅60 hours of surgery appointments ✅69 contributions in the House of Commons ✅4500+ resident cases solved!
- Reposted by Cat Eccles MPLovely to welcome @cateccles.bsky.social to our Stourbridge shop this afternoon to meet volunteers and hear all about our campaign to end greyhound racing 🐾💙
- First year complete! ✅ Parliament has risen for summer recess until 1st September. I'm looking forward to being able to spend more time in the constituency and having a much needed break! My team and I are still available to help, don't hesitate to get in touch 😸 cat.eccles.mp@parliament.uk
- That's Sunday evening sorted! What a performance from the Lionesses last night. Chloe Kelly and Michelle Agyemang turned it around for England. We'll find out tonight who the team will face in the final with Germany v Spain 🏴🏴🏴
- I'm saddened to hear of the death of Birmingham music legend Ozzy Osbourne. He battled with his health since being diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2019 and just weeks ago performed at the Black Sabbath farewell concert Back to the Beginning. Rest in Power Ozzy 🤘🏻
- When the Israeli government shrugs off calls from 31 countries to end the war, the time for words is over. We need strong action to save the people of Gaza and the West Bank and ensure there is a state left to recognise.
