- I’ll get my #RandomGameSaturday in here before it’s Sunday, with GunBare! Game Tengoku (or The Game Tengoku 2,) another weird piece of light gun history from the PS1 era. - While player 1 still plays the game with a regular controller and plays it as a traditional shmup, the 2nd player has the option to play with a GunCon controller and blast everything on the screen while player 1 dodges bullets and shoots. There’s a 1-player light gun mode as well
- This is another weird instance of Namco licensing out GunCon technology to just about anyone who would have it back in these days, but this is a pretty fun and unique way to implement the functionality into a totally different genre, albeit it being an odd genre to combine it with
- Where the first game in the series was 2D, this one brought 3D visuals but still kept the fun parody/meta shmup elements and also had lots of great music including character image songs, and a full anime OVA episode that’s unlockable after playing well enough
- The first game’s OVA came on a VHS that was included with the Sega Saturn limited edition (and also included digitally on the PS4/PC/Switch remaster.) They’re both pretty fun if you enjoy the genre and some parody in your shmups
