Welcome to Hopkins Marine Station, a leader in marine science since 1892. Hopkins is part of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, @stanforddoerr.bsky.social, the Oceans Department and the Biology Department.
- Schistosomiasis is a debilitating parasitic disease affecting millions, Stanford researchers are working to reduce transmission risk by leveraging natural predators of snails along the Senegal River. To read more about it click here: sustainability-accelerator.stanford.edu/news/outrunn...
- Just a reminder! The deadline to apply for OCEANS 164H is January 21st! There will also be an introductory zoom on January 12th @ 12 pm stanford.zoom.us/j/9477669434... As well as January 16th @ 4 pm stanford.zoom.us/j/9811533276... We look forward to seeing you there!
- On December 3rd, The Oceans Department within the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability held their annual retreat! Check out some photos from this event!
- In Sept 2025, Black Ocean Stanford Scholars (BOSS) and the Monterey Bay Aquarium hosted a 3-day gathering celebrating Black scholars in ocean studies. From networking and tide-pool exploring to identity workshops and a moving aquatic-history exhibit, the event ended with a candlelit dinner. 🌊
- Congrats to undergraduate Zulie Malone, who won the Best Undergraduate Poster award for her senior thesis research on #kelp and marine #heatwaves at the Western Society of Naturalists meeting in San Diego this month! 🌊

- Hopkins welcomed students from Bridge Builders LA, a nonprofit that expands opportunity for youth, for a hands-on intro to ocean science and research. Students toured labs, met w/ researchers and graduate students, and learned about pathways from high school to college to careers in marine science.
- On July 24, we welcomed the Stanford Young Investigators to Hopkins! 🌊 These inspiring high schoolers are spending their summer diving into science & sustainability through Stanford’s K–12 outreach. During their visit, they learned about whale research & checked out the dive locker 🤿
