I'm always a little bit baffled every time I see someone say "All I need is for someone with a big platform to promote my series- then it will be instantly popular!"
As someone who does promos for other comics to a pretty decent following, and has "gone viral" multiple times:
No it won't
Promotions can help move the needle a little bit, but getting an actual, dedicated audience is like rolling a snowball- you slowly gather people over time. One big promo won't help much aside from giving the snowball a strong kick, if you're lucky- you still have to put in your own effort.
Jan 14, 2026 18:34I don't want to crush people's dreams, but I think we need to focus less on "going viral" and more on building a strong community around our works. Having A Big Number by itself doesn't help much. You can't eat social media numbers. You need the people on the other side of the screen to CARE.
