- I always appreciate a well-placed underpants gnome reference

- Did it pump you up?
- Trying this new thing where I *don't* bail my family out of every mess they make for themselves (forcing them to figure it out on their own) and I think this could actually be a good growth opportunity for all of them

- Moment of appreciation for the reviewers and editors at @psychopharmacology.bsky.social for their extremely kind reviews (!!!). Hoping to have good publication news soon!
- Guess I should have followed up with the published paper! I am proud to present another piece of the evolving kappa opioid receptor story in collaboration with the Karhanis Lab: link.springer.com/article/10.1...
- *Karkhanis* 🤦♀️

- Same.
- We just lost power and it's 26 F outside, so we're off to a strong start in 2026 🫠
- Wishing everyone a peaceful 2026
- I am locked in an epic battle with someone in this house who keeps turning the toilet paper the wrong way. Christmas is about to get violent.
- As it was intended:
- A thing I wish more applicants to STEM PhD programs would understand is that, no matter how good your GPA is and how much research experience you have, there is still no such thing as a "safety school".
- And he's PHinisheD! Congratulations to the newly-minted Dr. Brody Carpenter! Wishing you all the best in your post-doc.
- Hold up. "Jessica" is the new "Karen"?! This is very not cool.

- I've gotten this, too. Try a different browser
- I was excited to get into the lab today to help out with an experiment...until I realized I now need readers to make out the labels on eppendorfs and pipettes. #oldPIproblems 🔬🧪🔎
- Just hold everything really far from your face. That's what I do now 🫣
- Probably a niche question: Can anyone point me to research that shows the benefits of having a research compact for biomedical trainees?
- Step 1: Take home your '90s CD tower from your parents' house. Step 2: Acquire a CD player through your local Buy Nothing group. Step 3: Joy.

View full threadThe one where they tune a harp? Nevermind 😆

- Me & my husband have been planning to do this!!! We have the CDs but not the tower or player—would love to hear them all again!!
- Do it! I have on Nirvana Unplugged right now!

- Probably. Most programs I'm aware of are either December 1 or December 15. Applicants might not have caught your early deadline until it was too late.
- That might be a reflection of your geographical location. Our application portal is still open, but we're on track to surpass our numbers from last year.
- uhhhhh commons, you doing ok? I also can't access IAR, so, maybe uh oh?
- Try a different browser. I had that too.

- Welp, I just rescheduled my UAB seminar visit that was supposed to happen next week

- Thank you. I hope so, too.
- This isn't what's actually going to happen though. There aren't anywhere close to enough positions outside of the US to absorb all of the scientists willing to leave the US. Most of us will likely have to just leave science all together.
- When you happily start the day with not a single meeting scheduled but only manage to write one paragraph of your manuscript because of all the little things that came up during the day

- 😆 🏆 “Billionaires against Mamdani” “Slow and expensive buses” Too good
- The thing I love about this the most is that I'm pretty sure I actually know one of those "billionaires" in the video and they are, in fact, a millionaire
- Oh, good. Another day of me being super productive in order to avoid doing the one, necessary BIG THING

- A colleague who's not on social media said that they couldn't be at an event in about two weeks because they had an NIH thing. My response was basically "cool story, bro".

- Also, spiders entering the little opening in the smoke alarm can trip it so it thinks the battery is low. Ask me how I know 🫠

- Real academic parent moment: Getting shamed by my 9 year old for having too many tabs open on my computer 🙄
- I'll be mourning mine for quite a while. It was with a PO who has managed my funded grants before, and I had never heard them be more excited about likelihood of funding than this one.

- I'm in the same boat. I was told it passed Council in May. Never asked for a JIT 😭
- As best I can tell, NIAAA in all of 2025 has issued a total of three new R01s and zero new R21s. Do I have that right?
- [Not loaded yet]
- Oh, my. That is very, very late
- [Not loaded yet]
- I'm seeing them being awarded 8 - 10 weeks late. Are there some that are not being awarded at all?
- Looks like a fourth R01 was awarded!
- Challenge: post your last photo taken in DC to show what a hell-hole it is:

- Yeah... so as far as I can tell, NIAAA has *still* only issued a total of THREE new R01s in all of 2025. Not sure that my persistence is going to help me here...
- Does anyone else close their office door so they can just eat their lunch like a goblin? Is it just me?
