- I don't think this is actually true, but I feel it *ought* to be the case that the gerund form of the word meaning "to cut into little cubes" should be spelled "dicing" while the gerund form of the word meaning "to play with dice" should be spelled "diceing."

- HEY APub AUTHORS!!! Amazon has put up a form where they (non legal terminology) sign over their half of any anthropic settlement money to you. Obvs I can not give anyone legal advice, but check this out. This could give you 2x the money. d1qwyayg24w5f4.cloudfront.net/pdf/Anthropi...

- I recently rewatched this rarely-seen 1980 production and I would say that, despite the laughable special effects, it holds up well. I do know that of all the adaptations of her work, it's the only one that Le Guin actually liked.
- In the 1980s the top 0.001% wealthiest people in the US owned 0.3% of the total wealth of all Americans. In the original Gilded Age it was about 4%. Today it's 10-12%. So our new Gilded Age is FAR WORSE than the original.

- Reposted by David D. LevineAs AI is deployed at higher and higher levels of the process, the incident tail risk goes up: it becomes more likely that you get an incident where no human knows what pieces of the system to look at, how they fit together, what tradeoffs & risks exist in them, etc

- I watched the first 1.5 episodes of Starfleet Academy and wasn't compelled to continue. I found the main character an insufferable jerk and the overall tone a bit too much "teen comedy" and not enough "Star Trek." Might try episode 3 when it drops.
- Reposted by David D. LevineIf you're a writer, wondering why you should bother writing with the world on fire. It feels like it's not important, I need you to understand that it is. - I remember my dad telling me that in WWII the Resistance put sugar in the Nazis's gas tanks. Except that sugar was rationed and they couldn't get enough to ruin the engines. So they would just sprinkle a little sugar around the Nazis' gas caps, forcing them to sideline the vehicle for nothing.

- Last night I watched Cronenberg's CRIMES OF THE FUTURE and whoa, that certainly was a thing.
- I'd call it a provocative, disturbing movie about kink and the nature of art, with a huge dollop of body horror. It's also one of the most thoroughly realized explorations of a science fiction premise I've seen in some time.
