I dont know the particulars of this case, but I'm finding social media to be increasingly toxic. I feel anxious because I have a book coming out this year, and as a freelance writer, I rely on it. But more and more, it feels like we are in some kind of rat race for likes and follows. Depressing.
I’m going to be taking a break from Bluesky for a while.
There’s a lot of good here but increasingly this place just makes me sad and angry and, increasingly, foul tempered and mean. It’s not good for me or anyone else.
I’ll check DMs occasionally but otherwise I’ll be away for a bit. Take care.
I used to create a lot of medical history content across all platforms. But these days, it's hard to find the motivation. It feels like I'm reaching fewer and fewer people and no one really cares (valid) because the world is on fire, metaphorically and literally. Anyway, happy new year?
Jan 6, 2026 21:53Please do keep at it, Lindsay, I love your posts! I also wholeheartedly understand & sympathise as I feel the same. Yet, as academics, we can't afford not to engage on social media - if only to provide light relief (!), insights and evidence that we don't have to accept the current madness 🙂
Yeah, it’s becoming more like Twitter was before it became the Nazi Party Voice. Slippery slope. I’m finding when you exclude the right wingers, the lefties just start attacking each other anyway. And over there, they’re fighting each other too.🙄 Humans. Were a bit shit. (Professional Opinion😁)
