- Our ATU Local 1225-San Francisco, CA, and Monterey-Salinas Transit Mentors in Motion (MIM) program continues to set the standard for how mentorships can support and uplift new operators entering the transit industry.
- To recognize the dedication and hard work of both mentors and mentees, the MIM team created a unique and meaningful symbol of achievement - the ATU Mentorship Championship Belt.
- Under the leadership of International President John Costa, our mentorship programs provide critical guidance and support that helps our members navigate the early stages of their careers and build a foundation for long-term success. #ATUMentorships

- Our Local 1249 in Springfield, IL, launched the state’s first ATU-exclusive mentorship program for transit operators. This ATU-driven initiative pairs our experienced members with newly hired operators and those in need of additional support through a structured peer-to-peer mentoring model.
- This program builds on successful mentorship models pioneered by under the leadership of International President John Costa. It is also unique in that it is fully owned, operated, and led by our members and local leadership at Local 1249. #ATUMentorships
- Today, Int. President John Costa convened two of our largest zoom trainings ever with more 325 Local leaders attending Executive Board Trainings to learn about the duties and responsibilities of Executive Boards. Int. Exec. Vice President Yvette Trujillo & IST Ken Kirk also addressed the trainings.
- “It’s inspiring to see so many of you join us for this important training. As Executive Board members, you play an important role for your Local and our members. You must organize, strategize, and think outside the box,” Costa told the attendees.
- “I’ve been in your shoes as an Executive Board member and wish I had this training to understand the challenges of serving on an Executive Board. It’s a serious responsibility. It requires knowledge, skills, and dedication.
