Hot take: BookTok and all other internet-fueled reading programs are objectively good.
The country is becoming violently (literally) illiterate, and we should be encouraging EVERYONE to read more and better.
While I don’t recall the University, I read a piece just yesterday written by a professor alarmed by the illiteracy of incoming freshman. They’re resorting to ‘popcorn’ reading and no longer assigning out of class reading because kids can’t do it. Even then the comprehension is still problematic.
We are launching a generation into adulthood without the basic tools to navigate a toxic information environment. It threatens the political and economic stability of the country.
