it is effectively the same thing to the consumer, but consumers are extremely averse to what is effectively a sudden large price increase, and a lot of americans already struggle with costs of living. after moving out of the usa, i hardly buy anything outside of europe because of that tax and it +
+ makes me sad because none of the things i would buy are made inside europe anyways. so i just kind of don't get nice things. i don't really know how else to explain it, but a majority of americans probably think that import taxes are barbaric or anti-consumer
