MtBotany
Botanizer. I'm not mad, just irresponsible. Also not a person made of plants or a killer robot pretending to be human, honest.
Wikipedia editor that writes about plants. Posting about plants 92.8% of the time. But I comment about other things.
- I came across some incredible common names for Castilleja coccinea today. Bloody warrior, election posies, and wickaawee. I only have the names and no information about origins, but they are quite fun.
- This is why I am not planning a wildflower vacation this year. I'll still make day trips, but I am expecting the summer to be rather unpleasant and the spring to be brief.
- Looking for something else I came across the article for this extraordinary looking species of flower from South Africa. Apparently those big "petals" are actually bracts. I would have guessed sepals. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haemant...
- I really love some common names even if I'm not in love with the plant. For example: thread-torch paintbrush for Castilleja minor. What a name! The plant is fine, perfectly lovely little annual, I've so far always missed noticing it. But the name is much prettier than any photos I've seen.
- Today, breakfast was blueberry whole wheat pancakes. This is plant related, because blueberries. Even if I did buy them frozen at a store. They are the smaller low bush type, which is nice for putting in pancakes.
- Saint Helena olive (Nesiota elliptica) Extinct 2003 Part of the buckthorn family, the only member of its genus. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_H...
- <starts playlist>🎶Ring of Fire🎶 covered by Blondie Time to do some plant research! Plant tax: saskatoon (Amelanchier alnifolia)

- Okay. Gibt es ein Restaurant in Wien, das ich besuchen sollte?
- @naomibot.bsky.social Hey, you co-wrote the FNA description for Erythranthe minor, right? I'm working on an article for the species in Wikipedia and most of the pictures I'm seeing on iNaturalist have red-dots on the corolla. Should exclude them from possible illustrations?
- My most minor brush with fame yet! Hank answers my usual question to people, "Any trees or flowers that you are excited about lately?"
- Thanks to My-Lan Le for this creative commons photo of alpine paintbrush (Castilleja puberula). I felt well enough today to finish work on the Wikipedia article for the species. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castill...
- Among the things I would love to do if I had infinite time is to learn everything about the various tiny sweatbees I see pollinating flowers. Possibility Halictus?
- I feel... moderately better. Still achy at times and though I can breath easily most of the time I still feel some sinus pressure. Most of the day spent listening to books, though I did manage to cook. Flower tax: crested pricklypoppy (Argemone polyanthemos) from the same day out in rural field
- Okay. I've made a cup of tea (lapsang souchong) and I'm only half out of it. I think I could stop listening to my audiobook and do some editing on Wikipedia or post something halfway interesting here. Flower tax: stiff greenthread (Thelesperma filifolium) and other flowers in a field

- I just tried to get up. Much of today is not going to happen. I am determined to shower at some point but this cold or whatever is making me quite tired. Flower tax: northern wyethia (Wyethia amplexicaulis) at sunrise, Steamboat Lake State Park
