- New paper out in @jgroceans.bsky.social. Upper-ocean heat content in the Western Indian Ocean increases despite declining surface heat flux → driven by heat transport and convergence. Joint work: @unisouthampton.bsky.social @noc.ac.uk and IIT BBS 🔗 agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...
- In my latest article for @uk.theconversation.com, I break down how warmer oceans, higher evaporation, slow storm motion, and coastal proximity can turn even weak cyclones into intense rainmakers.
- Wrote an article for The Conversation on this year’s extreme monsoon rainfall and its increasing trend. It summarizes some of the major flooding events this year, explores their causes, and discusses the long-term trend in extreme monsoon precipitation over India.
- Our new study in Climate Dynamics reveals how interactions between the subpolar and subtropical jet streams played a critical role in triggering the extreme rainfall events over the North Indian Subcontinent in 2013 and 2023. Read: link.springer.com/article/10.1...
- 🌍 Global Sea Surface Temperatures (SST) are steadily rising 🌊. This radial plot shows monthly SST anomalies averaged over 60°S–60°N. Each ring = a year, and segments = months, highlighting the growing intensity of positive SST anomalies due to climate change.
- The 2024 Southwest Monsoon in India recorded 7.6% above the Long Period Average (LPA), marking an 'excess rainfall' year. This visualization shows monsoon trends over decades, revealing fluctuations influenced by ENSO and IOD phases. Thanks to @lijodxl.bsky.social for insightful suggestions!
