@rachelfurner
I'm a research scientist looking at data-driven/ML ocean models. Recent promotion to Dr! Parent to two adorable small humans. No idea what free-time is anymore... but I used to enjoy baking and reading, and one day will return to these hobbies!
- We've set up a community mailing list for the OceanPredict AI task team. If you're interested in machine learning & ocean prediction, and want to find out more about our upcoming events & seminars etc, put in a request at oceanpredict.org/contact/cont... asking to be added to the AI-TT mailing list.
- Registration now open for the first OceanPredict ArtificiaI Intelligence Task Team Workshop at UQAM, Montreal, Canada, 13-14 April 2026. oceanpredict.org/events/ai-tt... We're finalising the agenda to share next week -- its full of interesting talks & posters. Its shaping up to be a great event.
- One week left to submit abstracts to our #EGU2026 session Machine Learning for Ocean Sciences. We'd love to hear from you! www.egu26.eu/session/57611
- 📣 One week left!! 📣 🌊 Call for abstracts #EGU26 !!! Please consider our session: ITS1.9/OS4.1 Machine Learning for Ocean Science meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU26/sessio... Deadline 15 January 2026 @brajard.bsky.social @rachelfurner.bsky.social @redouanelg.bsky.social
- We've extended the abstract deadline for the first Ocean Predict AI task team workshop - new deadline January 2nd. We'd love to hear from people working on ML and oceans, oceanpredict.org/events/ai-tt...
- Abstract submission open for the first workshop of the Ocean Predict Artificial Intelligence Task Team (AI-TT) focusing on “Machine Learning for Ocean Prediction: Methods, Applications & Challenges” at the University of Montréal on the 13th & 14th April 2026. oceanpredict.org/events/ai-tt...

- Reposted by @rachelfurnerIt's about time we start organizing the Liege Colloquium for 2026! Submesocale Processes in the ocean will be the topic, a revisit of the Colloquium of 2016. 10 years of advances! I'll try to document here the journey towards organizing such an event, maybe there's interest? #LiegeOcean26 🌊🧪
- A fabulous day of talks! Now time for posters, we're in x4, 51-81.
- At 10:45 we have invited speaker Julie Deshayes presenting on "ocean models for climate applications: progress expected from machine learning" (room -2.41/42)
- Our session is today, machine learning for ocean science, in -2.41&42. Starting at 8:30. Some great talks lined up!
- Great to be in Vienna for #EGU2025, presenting this afternoon on data driven ocean modelling. Lovely to already bump into lots of friendly faces over morning posters, looking forward to the rest of the week!
- Reposted by @rachelfurnerRemember that this Friday 31 January is the deadline for the Liège Colloquium abstract submission!! 🌊🧪 Topic: Marine CDR emerging views and challenges Date: 26-30 May 2025 Abstract deadline: 31 January 2025 www.ocean-colloquium.uliege.be
- In amongst all the chaos of early January and a return to reality, this paper from my PhD got published! We show that a UNet trained to emulate an idealised ocean configuration works brilliantly overall, but very badly near land....
- 5 days till #EGU abstract submission deadline. I'm convening Machine Learning for Ocean Sciences, with @aida-alvera.bsky.social @brajard.bsky.social @redouanelg.bsky.social. Very excited to have solicited speaker Julie Deshayes. Send us your abstracts meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/sessio...
