- Good news for the offshore windustry! Record breaking new offshore wind results arrived this morning, in the latest UK CfD auction. Eight new projects supported, two new floating sites, 8.4 GW altogether!
- The strike price is around what was expected, £91/MWh for fixed sites in England and Wales, and well below the price of new fossil gas. Bottom line: This is a good result. We need to get things being built, this will do that.

- It's 25 years since the very first offshore wind farm in Britain, one of the first globally and the largest in the world at the time! Check out our report summary and explainer video! Come for the cutting-edge stats and story-telling, stay for the nautical puns.

- Reposted by Frankie MayoThe UK has experienced a “solar surge” this year as a run of sunny days and new panels on rooftops generated record amounts of electricity. Solar power output has broken records for the last five months in a row, @ember-energy.org found.

- Latest figures show just how much emissions from Drax biomass power plant compare to the largest polluting gas power plants #energysky
- New infographic review of the UK Emissions Trading Scheme data, the first time this is published in full for 2024. Full report linked below, a few takeaways: *Note that two of these 50 largest emitters closed in 2024, but what did it do to their rankings among the other largest?
- DNV today published its 'CCS to 2050' report, an optimistic reference for risks and local policies - but please note there is a mistake in the UK section. The UK no longer has an "ambition is to capture and store 20-30 MtCO2/yr by 2030" - this was publicly deemed unachievable by UK gov't in Dec.

- www.theguardian.com/business/nil... Funding decisions have obviously been tough, and this may have some unexpected upsides for GB Energy, but for all the obvious benefits of GB Energy it seems a missed opportunity that it's not being propelled better with quicker wins. Nuclear is not quick.

- We've just published an updated analysis of the 2027-2031 subsidy package for Drax. This could be the beginning of the wind down, but focus must move to the post-2031 phase out now. For lots of charts, stats and commentary - check out the link in the thread:
- 😎 For those of you enjoying the sun in the past few weeks and naturally wondering what impact it's been having on the grid, then look no further!

- Oil and gas production is in long-term decline in the UK. This is one of my favourite charts from our new analysis of how Clean Power 2030 will affect UK oil, gas and biomass imports. Full report in comments. #energysky

- New chart - The rising energy price cap is bad news, we've been following the steadily increasing price of gas for the 12 months. It's clear that wholesale energy prices need to be freed from the influence of volatile gas.

- Biomass subsidies - Good news for bill payers, and bad news for Drax The next subsidies announced for big biomass are *potentially* far more restrictive than previously enjoyed by Drax. This could signal the beginning of a wind down of expensive and polluting biomass power generation. However...

- Ofgem has announced a 1.2% rise in the domestic price cap from January. Expensive fossil gas is making winter harder for millions. Ember analysis shows that the cost of generating power using gas remains 80% higher than the pre-energy crisis average #energysky ember-energy.org/latest-updat...
- Delighted to see my favourite Lobster Hatchery (Whitby Lobster Hatchery) has teamed up with RWE to supporting biodiversity at offshore energy installations. Local jobs at the hatchery and long term benefits for the local economy. www.newpower.info/2024/11/lobs... #energysky
- I never know if I'm the last person still using RSS to bring news sources together - are other #energysky / UK energy & politics people sitting on any good feeds? UK Gov has a load of feeds for data updates (i.e. REPD yesterday 👀), industry specific news feeds, even MET office for climate news.
