- #firstdayofclass for me yesterday — I’m teaching two sections of #grantwriting for grad students. I’m glad to be back in the classroom again after some time in #academicaffairs admin, and teaching #grantsmanship skills is such fun. I love seeing students figure out how to advocate for their ideas.
- I asked my local library to purchase "Mind the Science" by @jonathanstea.bsky.social -- and they just got back to me to tell me they did! Spreading the word far and wide about #mentalhealth #misinformation.
- Doing #facultydevelopment this morning, specifically to support #faculty who are preparing for #tenure or #promotion review. Today’s topic: writing strong candidate statements, which overlaps a lot with what I teach #gradstudents about the rhetorical tasks in #grantwriting. #academicSky #highered
- After my mom’s #death, she visited me in a dream and whispered, “Do what’s right for you. Care less about what others think. I wasn’t good at that but you can be better.” I woke up feeling awash in my mother’s love. What lessons have you learned from those you are #grieving? #endoflife #lifelessons

- If you’re #grieving, it may feel tough to #exercise. Do it anyway. It doesn’t have to be much. It can be slow. And #gooutside if you can. Moving for just 10 minutes can help your mind stay connected to your body when it’s trying to float away in the #grief. #endoflife #support
- One of the best things you can do to support a #grieving person is to *resist your “fix-it” urge*. Sit with them, acknowledge their feelings, ask if they’d like to talk about their loss, and then listen, listen, #listen. No need to “fix” - you can’t anyway. Just be w/ them. #grief #death #friendship
- Talk about it with anyone you hope will be by your side if you are in a medical crisis. #Communication about your #endoflife preferences is so important. #palliativecare #hospice #deatheducation
- **Don’t keep it to yourself!** Create an #advancedirective about your wishes at #endoflife, but *also* communicate those wishes to lots of folks - health care team, family, friends. Early communication is the key to increasing your chances for a good #death. #palliativecare #hospice #choiceindying

- I’ve been invited to join friends for a #Friendsgiving dinner at the end of the month. Any guesses about 1) the side dish I’ll make and bring to share, and 2) how long it’ll take me to start talking about #endoflife planning at the dinner table? #cooking #death #deatheducation #yesimthatfriend

- Qualities I want in my #healthcarerepresentative or #healthcareadvocate: - respects my wishes - great listener/ communicator - fierce advocate for me - not easily overwhelmed by stress What else would you add? #palliativecare #endoflife #advancecareplanning
- It’s #Death and Tacos 🌮 night at my house! (Instead of cake, I do a taco bar at my #deathcafe.) Since there’s no agenda, the guests drive the conversation. It’s always different & always promotes insight and emotional connection. #deatheducation #advancecareplanning
- Hosting my monthly #death café this weekend. As always I’m struck by the disconnect between the oft-heard refrain of “people don’t want to talk about death” and the consistent relief and gratitude folks express when coming to a café where they can open up about it. #deatheducation #endoflife #grief

- Having an #advancedirective is a very good thing, but having a #healthcare representative or #powerofattorney is still so important. Having someone to advocate for what *you* want if you are unable to speak for yourself is helpful more often than you’d think. #deatheducation #death #endoflife

- Of the many #endoflife scenarios worth discussing with loved ones, how we want to manage #dementia can be among the toughest. Here is a tool that can help you think (and then talk) it through, from Compassion & Choices. #deatheducation #advancedirective compassionandchoices.org/dementia-val...
- #Holidays may seem like an odd time to talk about #endoflife choices, #death, or #grief, but if you are with folks who you hope will also be there with you at the end, it’s a great time. 🧵 1/4
