- After a few weeks delay, ICE just released new detention statistics. They show 70,766 people in detention as of 1/26/2026. I believe this is the first time this data source has reported a detained population over 70k.

- ICE just published its detention statistics spreadsheet. The first of the 2026 fiscal year and the first since mid-September, before the shutdown. The data shows 65,135 people in detention, the highest I've seen in this particular data.
- Today, Tucson City Council is discussing a proposed ordinance that would create a new offense of "drug-related loitering". Indications that could trigger an arrest for this include officer knowledge of a prior drug conviction, or the so-called "fent fold." tucsonaz.hylandcloud.com/221agendaonl...

- When you look closely, the contours of how cities in the U.S. respond to encampments, can be quite different. That Pittsburgh cleared an encampment only after the people there had been moved into more stable housing, beyond just emergency shelter, really stands out.
