- Happy to see our work in @cp-trendsecolevo.bsky.social out🎉 Building on the @ipbes.net Nexus Assessment, we review evidence surrounding the expansion of conservation areas and how they interact with other sectors (Read for free here authors.elsevier.com/a/1m57vcZ3X3...) (1/4) 🧪 #conservation #nexus
- We highlight that any expansion of conservation areas can have positive and negative consequences across the Nexus. These effects are pervasive and vary in magnitude across realms, protection governance types and sectors. (2/4)
- How are we going to navigate this challenge? We argue that integrated spatial planning (GBF Target 1) can provide a key way forward to maximize positives and minimizes negatives outcomes. In the planning for future conservation areas these interlinkages should be explicitly considered. (3/4)
- I invite those interested in the matter to also read Chapter 3 of the Nexus Assessment ( zenodo.org/records/1385... ), which provides a comprehensive overview of future sectoral interactions also for non conservation area related issues. (4/4)

- Systematic conservation planning (SCP) has been established as key approach to identify where conservation efforts are to be prioritized. But how can they be assessed, compared or interrogated 🧐 Here we present ODPSCP, a new open protocol for the intercomparison of SCP doi.org/10.1111/csp2... (1)
- It is long known that factors such as stakeholders, monitoring, or a clear theory of change are frequently omitted in SCP projects. With conservation priority maps steadily increasing, it will become evermore important to ease comparisons and allow methods and assumptions to be scrutinized (2)
- Furthermore, the issue is that there isn’t a single priority map given any set of data. Even prioritizations performed on the same data can markedly differ with targets, grain and scale, costs, actions, penalties, and other constraints (see animation using identical input features) (3)
