- I'm away for the weekend. Landlord called to say Marvin the sparrowhawk made a booboo and ended up stuck in the chain of my bird feeder and he had to get it down and wirecut him out of it. First time he made a big hunting boo boo. He's fine, nothing broken ,except pride.
- BGBC this morning Finch numbers are deffo down, usually get lots of bickering squads of goldfinch and siskins and if hear them all day long. Chaffinches always remain high. But noticed tit numbers are up this year. Especially coal tits Some species I get didn't show today
- Wow this one is stunning too, such fun to make.
- So happy how this set turned out..always cautions buying, but was a fraction the cost of LEGO and so nice..I have a swallowtail butterfly to try next 🪶
- I noticed a few ringed coal tits in the crowd in my garden, since your nearby do you ring coal tits at the carey site @harbourbirds.bsky.social theres no way i can read the number on it
- Driving home from.dorc and there was a lovely red kite struggling in the winds at the A35 puddletown turn off @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
- By this stage, extra pizzly, but at swineham we were treated to a combo of marsh harrier and a (juv?) P. Falcon, taking from the BOPH boat this am @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
- Seal with a good size meal, taken on this morning BOPH trip, spotted at the brownsea pier @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social
- The red neck grebe and a squad of black neck grebe taking on this morning BOPH boat in the mist, so a high ISO, but incredibly calm waters let us spot everything on the waters @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
- Shag in the harbour with what the skipper kindly identified as a spiny scorpion fish, and it did swallow it, despite the spines, taking on the BOPH trip this calm misty morning @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
- Godwits Dunlin and a pair of pintails at holes bay @harbourbirds.bsky.social
- Rosie and partner at ASDA this morning, was nice for both to be on show when having a colleague join me for some birdwatching, she was happy to see both @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetraptors.bsky.social
- @harbourbirds.bsky.social both falcons on asda today, male chasing the magpies a few times and female now chilling in the upper box @dorsetraptors.bsky.social
- Its always lovely when you have a little session with some treecreepers 🪶
- Starlings coming in at shapwick heath, capturing the main action on the big camera, but here's a snippit from the phone.
- Trying to do the refills and they're so impatient
- Frosty breakfast, let's see if anything interesting shows
- Few firecrests around the quarries of Townsend quarries
- Ok now we're deeper into winter..I've noticed I seem to have way more tits than previous years dominating all feaders, finch species numbers are quite low this year compared to the last 3. First blackbirds and song thrushes have finally returned I can't refill peanut feeders fast enough. 🪶
- Mixed group relaxing at brands bay, oystercatchers, redshank, turnstone, a pochard, a little egret and some grey plover @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
- The three WTE this morning in Brands bay, giving everyone a good show. Any chance finding out which eagles they were? @harbourbirds.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social 🪶
- Good start No sign of smew but 3wte appeared over B.bay 1 adult, 2 juv..The adult headed towards the hills while the youngsters circled around each other over and towards the mouth of the harbour. @harbourbirds.bsky.social
- So far loads of redwings and thrushes along the north bestwell road..some of the Holly's still brimming with berries. It's hard to count with how much they're moving about along the track @harbourbirds.bsky.social
- Has anyone counted the piddle valley cormorant roost this year. I've not checked on it this year, may have a look this evening. @harbourbirds.bsky.social my best one year was over 300
- Some of the glossy Ibis i shot this morning in Wareham, low light and in the shade just after sunrise, but they aren't too bad. @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social
- My boredom craft is finished Used a reference image of CJ7 for it @harbourbirds.bsky.social 🪶
- Was a treat to have the ibis so close to take pictures with just the phone But typical now the sun is up, they've all gone and bunkered down at the far back and haven't come back out since. @harbourbirds.bsky.social
- The ten glossy ibis still in the corner of the flooded field by Saxon roundabout. Wareham @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social just waiting to see if better light approaches
- What do we think so far? Not sure myself. It's hard working with birds that lack a lot of colours 🪶
- Finally first song thrush of the winter in the garden, this winter has been quiet Sure I get more birds than most, but for my garden numbers in general seem quite down.
- Struggling to know how to start my day, so I start it by bealing bread
- I have a large wood cookie, and I cannot decide what bird to 'paint' onto it, or other widlife
- Mist be something nice at ridge saw bunch of cars parked and people with camera looking into the field
- Lots of Brent geese at knoll Beach today in the wind and a mass stranding of clams @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
- So glad to be on a holiday break now, though can't do much till the relatives leave after xmas
- Mum saw my kingfisher and saidnifnincan do a robin for my nan. Alrighty then. Nice round robin 🪶
- From the house quick pop walk over to trigon heath, always hopeful checking the spot ls in the heath the grey shrike hung around for weeks 2 years ago, but nothing. Did have 15 crossbills (in various size groups) 4 Dartford, 2 redwings 2 ravens and the usual suspects. @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
- Didn't do much birding on my 6 days off. Recently I've been struggling to find the mood to do a lot of things, but today I mustered up to do some craft. So this is my third attempt with needle felting, I think it turned out well 🪶
- Hot breath at sunrise
- Both falcons, Rosie and partner present on Asda this lunchtime @harbourbirds.bsky.social
- Juv wte flown over combe heath heading southeast into the harbour 9am @harbourbirds.bsky.social
- Lodmoor was relatively quiet yesterday but the marsh harriers were being quite active. Sad I finally got there first time in weeks and not a single golden plover that day @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
- Has a cane, good singing voice, from new Orleans, voodoo style, shadow friends (on the other side), are we sure alastor and facilier aren't cousins @vivziepop.bsky.social Though it's funny as Keith D voices Facilier, maybe that's why Alastor won him into submission
