- There are 8 picture books on this list. None were created by women. After everything we’ve been through the last decade, this is an enormous oversight. What @slj.com has just said is that only men are influential in the world picture books. And I’m not okay with this.
- This is not to say the 8 books are not influential (although I’d debate you on a couple). And I’m not gonna list the dozens of alternative options that could have been selected. But there ARE dozens. I’m sure the folks who put this list together put a lot of thought into it. Just not enough.
- ETA: This is apparently based on a readers survey (which is not mentioned on the graphic SLJ is showing, so they deserve any flack they get). But this reflects very poorly on those who fill out SLJ surveys.
