- The US government is being methodically hunted, and the calls are coming from inside the house. We've been trained over generations to be passive viewers/consumers instead of active participants in our government. So what do we DO now?
- Giddy to be writing for this again.

- My kid's 5th grade class is reading The Westing Game, and my Gen X reader heart is singing. I loved that book. I had the cover pictured here, and it was a library binding. That means it was one of the books my aunt Betsy sent me. 📚💙
- Betsy is a librarian, and at the time worked at a regional library district as a consultant for other libraries, and doing collections work on the central collection. She would send the deaccessioned copies to me, her incredibly avid reader niece.
- I don't specifically remember getting the boxes, but I remember that my bookshelves were filled with books that I hadn't read yet. And that was a wonder all itself. I could go pick something and there would be a new story inside.

- Are you an audio storytelling human? I am. Audiobooks and podcasts make me extra special happy. And the best I've found yet is Midnight Burger. www.weopenatsix.com
- Why? Well, it's great. And it's been great since episode 1. It's still great at the almost-end of season 4. And it's got a couple side-story threads that are also great.
- More why: it's like if you took Doctor Who, made it American, added an academic theoretician, and a prodigy engineer who becomes a space pirate, added two incorporeal companions who are also old-timey Arkansawyer Baptist preachers, and replaced the Doctor with a DMV employee.

- Starting 2025 by submitting a claim appeal to UHC for Gwyn's scoli brace, which I shouldn't have to do, as they are a fully covered expense. Wheeeeee!
- I wonder which part they think we should do without? The thoracic extensions, that correct her shoulder blade winging? The right one or the left one? Who needs two usable arms, right?
- Or maybe the derotation pad. Because who cares if her spine twirls like a strand of DNA, so long as it goes straight up and down, amirite?

- Extremely subtle naming.
- The 10yo just pointed out that The Fifth Element starts in a desert, qualifying it for membership in my Shitty Sand Planet Theory of sci-fi tropes. I hereby posit two things: 1) Earth counts as a Shitty Sand Planet, and 2) I have taught my child well.
- The Shitty Sand Planet Theory is that since a world without water is the most depressing thing we can think of, all scifi heroes should have a trial by fire on a Shitty Sand Planet.

- New employee is AFAB with he/they pronouns. Know whose problem it is if staff are uncomfortable with that? NOT HIS. Just reminding myself, and anyone who needs to hear it, that our job as compassionate humans is to reduce harm to the vulnerable, not to reduce discomfort for the majority.
- Few lyrics are as satisfying to sing as "Initiatives are taken up By the middle, there ain't gonna be any middle any more" Thanks, Pearl Jam. You've been living rent free in my head since 1991.

- A decade after I closed them because the campus froze the vacant archivist position, we're in the baby steps phase of reopening them. First step: an intern and our mentored student research coordinator looking at the holdings to identify prime digital humanities collections.
- To the surprise of no librarian ever, Tom found a deep historical correspondence of librarians gatekeeping libraries to the detriment of their users...🙄

- At 🦃, G bonded with an adult step-cousin who also plays flute. They had an impromptu flute practice session. I thanked Tessa for being so kind to G and she replied "Kind? She was kind to ME. She's cool. When you write your parenting book I'll read it." The kid baffles and delights me.
