And because they are Very Important People in those other contexts, they don't want to start at the bottom. They want to start in leadership. They don't want to be Crewman First Class, they want to start out, you know, modestly, something like running a field office.
These guys (and it's nearly always *guys*) get into the group chat and try to take over. They learn a few words and concepts, they sit on the internet and read Reddit threads, or they watch TV shows about resistances. Their knowledge of resistance comes from Andor and DS9.
They won't do the unglamorous work, though. They won't arrange for and set up and clean the porta potties or restock them with TP. They won't haul the sound equipment. They won't figure out where to go with boxes of supplies. They won't set up and maintain spreadsheets and do data entry.
And worst of all: they won't listen. They won't listen to the people who built these networks. Because they are Very Important People.
