- Great PhD work by James Bassford in @agu.org Geophys.Res.Lett. Using statistical mechanics concepts he explains why one model can capture the bimodal water vapour distribution over tropical oceans, & another cannot essopenarchive.org/users/593994...
- One dead, 1000s evacuated, I imagine this will affect UK food supplies(?) and it's not even in the UK news ... We have normalised ClimateCrisis extremes far quicker than I thought we would (I know there's a lot in the news just now) www.euronews.com/2026/02/05/a...

- This event has been tragically under-reported in UK news
- Reposted by John MarshamNEW ANALYSIS: UK household electricity bills have risen over the last 5 years. BUT: Despite frequent claims that net zero is to blame: 2/3 of the increase is because of high gas prices shows new @ukerc.bsky.social report. Arguably without renewable energy the UK would see even higher bills today.
- Compared with most UK journalism, it's refreshing to see a reporter stating straight up these are climate crisis stories. It shouldn't be. But you really don't see much UK media treating UK floods like that

- I've long thought that our climate crisis response must urgently learn from this. The experts were shouting it's not safe, but the management didn't want to hear that message. They wanted to carry on. Climate scientists often say it will be "catastrophic" without rapidly phasing out fossil fuels...
- Floods in UK - but no mention of Climate Emergency by BBC. To me, incredibly poor journalism to report on events but not on known reasons for them. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

- Also scandalous they don't discuss implications. It's like reporting a widespread illness that is increasing human body temperatures, and understanding why, but failing to report that a body temperatures above 40 can be fatal.
- News like this is a rare opportunity to communicate risks of where we are heading & consequences of our actions. Media largely sticks to global temperatures though - which doesn't tell the real story. Why? Stronger dialogue between media & science vital www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
- Reposted by John MarshamThis thread responds to Prof. Christian Dunn’s Telegraph piece on #climate communication. I argue it misdiagnoses public disengagement, underplays escalating scientific risk, & reproduces a media narrative that has actively shaped, not merely reflected, public resistance to climate action 🧵
- Reposted by John MarshamThe utterly shameless & widely covered "report" out today, claiming net zero will "cost" £9tn is based on: * Assuming free fossil-fuel energy, free petrol cars, free gas boilers, free gas power plants etc AND * Including climate damages in the "cost" of net zero I kid you not, it is that stupid
- Reposted by John Marsham🧵A political/media guide to the "truth" about net-zero 1) Add up costs to install & run a net-zero energy system 2) Pretend fossil-fuelled alternatives wld be free 3) Do say "eco zealots are bankrupting us" 4) Don't say "free cars if we scrap net-zero" cos it sounds ridiculous 5) That's it! 1/10
- Even the @theguardian.com has more words on the Golden Globes than the @nebriefing.bsky.social We need quality media like RestIsPolitics to step up and discuss what matters to all politics, and to us all.
