- Even before the White House threatened to freeze funding, child care providers across the country were scrambling to deal with a pull back in federal funds -- wait lists in a lot of states are crazy long. Prices rising. www.axios.com/2026/01/12/t...

- I'm looking for anyone that's work at a company that's either missed payroll -- or been late with paychecks. I want to hear what that's like and how that affected you. It's for a story I'm working on. Emily.peck@axios.com. You can also just DM me here or find me on Signal EmilyRPeck.71

- The letters appear to have been written quickly. Requests for documents repeatedly refer to "Minnesota" in letters addressed to other states. www.axios.com/2026/01/07/t...
- More details on what the Trump administration is doing on child care -- funds for a few states, including Georgia (!), are already getting held up. read more on @axios.com www.axios.com/2026/01/06/t...

- Please remember this chart the next time you read or hear it said that the cost of college is skyrocketing.
- Looking to hear from those who've been laid off in December -- ahead of holiday season? Seems to be happening with more frequency now. Please let me know in the comments -- were you surprised? You can email or DM, too, I'm on deadline today Friday Dec. 12. (Please don't pitch me on your company)
- Are you turning to a chatbot for help or guidance or just feedback/brainstorming at work — stuff that you might have once simply talked to a coworker about?? I want to hear about it for a story. Get in touch. Emily.peck@axios.com or DM /comment here.

- Is there any example of "upskilling" being something that actually worked?
- Everyone’s doing a word of the year now. Glassdoor’s is “fatigue.” I’m so tired.
- Here's something: I'm constantly sent surveys conducted annually by companies and what puzzles me is that they ask different questions every year. They'll be like 45% of people want to quit their jobs/ are stressed/ whatever. Then we'll ask, is that unusual? What was last year's? They're like 🤷♂️
- This might be my favorite one-on-one @slate.com podcast ever -- I got to talk to Heather Haddon of the @wsj.com about fast food for 45 minutes and it was amazing. slate.com/podcasts/sla...
- More women are leaving their jobs this year -- this is just the latest piece of evidence. The return to office push, the soaring cost of child-care and elder-care and the changing demographics of the country are all at work here. My latest: www.axios.com/2025/11/20/w...
- Has anyone written a story about the whole phenomenon of the side-chat conversations that now happen regularly on any Zoom or Teams meetings? It's a fascinating little work subculture

- Social Security backed off a change to the way disability insurance works — a huge relief to advocates and the many people who rely on it — after a raft of criticism. They don't call Social Security the third-rail of politics for no reason.. www.axios.com/2025/11/20/s...

- Women have had it. 2 out of 5 said they'd like to permanently move to another country. That's four times as high as in 2014. 21 points higher than among young men. Only 19% of men expressed a similar desire. No other wealthy country has numbers like these www.axios.com/2025/11/13/t...
