- Microglia & monocyte-derived cells were long assumed to have similar functions during remyelination. Our new paper @plosbiology.org shows non-redundant roles, with monocytes ultimately inhibiting remyelination. Team effort by Bianca Hill,Rebecca Holloway, Lindsey Forbes,Claire Davies plos.io/3RryCLF
- Surprising findings: 1. Monocytes, though low in number, have potent effects on remyelination 2. Most monocytes do not mature into macrophages during remyelination 3. They encourage oligodendrocyte differentiation but inhibit myelin production, showing the processes are uncoupled
- Super proud of our 2 PhD students @uoft.bsky.social for receiving studentships this week: Jonathan Monteiro for the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship & Bianca Hill for the Lloyd Carr-Harris Scholarship from @unityhealthto.bsky.social
