- Starting the week strong with a newly accepted paper in Policy Insights from the Behavioral and Brain Sciences, co-authored with postdoc @lizsnoland.bsky.social and Sohad Murrar! We merged two largely independent research lines to call for data disaggregation of Asian Americans and MENA Americans

- Study 1: We analyzed 250k YouTube comments from 57 videos of police brutality using GPT-3.5 + Google Jigsaw. Two main reactions appeared: ➡️ Justifying the officer’s actions ➡️ Expressing moral outrage They rarely overlap — each offers a different lens. ⚖️
- Comments justifying police conduct were ~80× less likely to mention accountability. Outrage comments were ~11× more likely. In public conversation, justification and outrage emerge as opposing ways of interpreting the same harm.

- Social cognition research is drowning in big, complex data—but we often use the same familiar methods. Unsupervised Machine Learning (UML) gives us tools to explore patterns without predefined outcomes. We wrote this paper to demystify UML and help researchers use it meaningfully.

They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.
- Reposted by Jonathan DoriscarIt took seeing adult bullies to understand that my childhood bullies didn’t even really want to hurt me, they just wanted to feel powerful and how I felt about it wasn’t even in the equation. I can’t imagine someone not outgrowing that, but apparently it happens quite a lot!
