- We are alarmed by reports that amidst internet and electricity blackouts, security forces have used excessive force to suppress and disperse ongoing post-election protests, resulting in the deaths and injuries of protesters.
- Protests erupt in Brazil after the deadliest police raid in Rio de Janeiro history. Death and bloodshed must not be treated as public policy. Public security should guarantee rights, NOT violate them.
- The President of Latvia must veto Latvia’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention to protect women and girls from gender-based and domestic violence.
- The adoption of this law in France is a historic step forward. It is a long-awaited victory for victims of rape and the culmination of years of tireless campaigning by activists, feminist organizations and survivors of sexual violence.
- UNnatural disasters caused by fossil fuels put our human rights at risk. People around the world, often those who have contributed least to climate change, are being killed or losing their homes to hurricanes, fires and floods.
- Powerful decision-makers, from heads of state to oil company CEOs, want us to believe that if we recycle enough or stop using single-use plastic, then we can stop UNnatural disasters caused by the climate crisis.
- But we’re not falling for it. We need to phase out fossil fuels, justly and fairly. Governments must drive the shift to renewable energy sources and proven technologies that don’t hurt people or the planet.

This is a human rights issue, and an export control trade issue - at the heart of it though is the prevention of torture - more action is needed from states to end the trade in tools of torture.

- The proposed bill on same-sex partnerships was flawed, but in rejecting it the Hong Kong authorities have shown an alarming disdain for LGBTI rights. This bill would have provided the bare minimum of protection for same-sex couples – but notably, only those who registered their partnership overseas.
- Yet even a small step forward in rights for same-sex couples has proved unpalatable to the Legislative Council. It is a setback which shows just how far Hong Kong has to go before everyone in the city can enjoy equal rights.
