the Driveby Calligrapher
She/Her. find me at cons & signings, usually near Boston.
name - I was at an N. K. Jemisin signing and I did a piece of calligraphy for her, she said something like “wow, drive by calligraphy”, I asked if I could use that as a moniker.
- Reposted by the Driveby CalligrapherI am not being snarky. I need my colleagues who wrote on covid school lockdowns to engage with this. To be as loud as they have been about prior "learning loss." Hell, you can cite Tom & Mark's AERJ paper so you feel better that there's some econ somewhere in your argument.
- Reposted by the Driveby CalligrapherNational media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation. Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

- We all love trying to convince people to like but we like, but it’s not a given that other people will like your darlings- enjoy them regardless
- Notably it’s like. A show with sex but it doesn’t really have much more than like. Game of thrones. It was so good.
- Having fun at arisia but I will say. Notably lower rate of calligraphable quotable moments vs other conventions I have been at, lol. Problem unique to me.
- @jzweston.bsky.social on guilty pleasures in general and legends of tomorrow in specific
- Asked @ceciliatan.com what quote they wanted from their new book, and this is the very funny choice they picked. Happy new book! (You too can have a quote from your book if we chat)
- From Roxanne Reddington-Wilde, answering a question about how to avoid getting too caught up in the details of the maps of your universe.
- Anne E. G. Nydam with an important rule of mapmaking — it’s totally fine to deviate from real geographical rules, but you should generally be doing it intentionally
- Kevin Turausky talking about the functions of maps- maps are for conveying information, and we often straighten out and simplify roads
- At the night market I did lots of random calligraphy for people, but I didn’t get photos of most of them- did get a photo of this piece of wisdom. Don’t kneecap yourself or your friends.
- Reposted by the Driveby CalligrapherThis seems like a maliciously put headline to make people feel a certain way. Wikipedia is not partaking in generative AI. They are making AI companies and scrappers having to pay for training their modules off wikipedia texts. And having an AI (not that ai) tasked with updating dead links.
- @ceciliatan.com is as we all know very moderate
- Jess Cameron talking about drawing comics
- @wiswell.bsky.social’s “Someone you can build a nest in” is getting very deserved flowers in the essentialism panel as a great example of work that undercuts essentialism!
- Never been before but excited to try arisia out and see folks!
- I’m simply a girl who remembered to bring everything to arisia EXCEPT my blank paper notebook. That I need to be able to do calligraphy, lmao.

- @alixeharrow.bsky.social talking about the extreme interest in lady knights that many of us had in our teen hood Talking about @tamorapierce.bsky.social, @garthnix.bsky.social, and Mercedes lackey, among others!
- At a tour event @sidequestbooks.bsky.social is doing with @alixeharrow.bsky.social! I’m very excited to read this book! If you live in the Boston area, definitely swing by the store if you’re near Bow market.
- @fondalee.bsky.social again, giving us a tangential example of how adding little details in your writing creates good world building and settles the reader in place
- More from @fondalee.bsky.social
- @fondalee.bsky.social on the prospect of dusting off and rewriting the practice novel she started off with
- @wiswell.bsky.social being properly lauded at @sidequestbooks.bsky.social

- TikTok wants me to download their app so bad, that even though they definitely know I’m in the US and not the UK, this is there newest trick they’re resorting to. I don’t know what it said, but here’s the proposed fare changes www.mta.info/fares-tolls/...

- Hozier Billy Bragg Tom Paxton and the don juans Amy kucharik at boskone Boston Pops pride night with Orville peck Mostly I go to group sings, not concerts, so those are over the last 2 years I think.
- This post is making me think of what @adapalmer.bsky.social said on the Rules were meant to be Broken, structures in society panel, talking about an importance’s of figuring out who ends up at the edges of whatever society you’re creating.
- AND NOW MONIQUILL HAS AN ASTOUNDING AWARD
- Seattle humidity murdered me to death. TSA is checked did a double take after looking at my ID and said “where did your curls go? What did you do to your hair?” 🥲
- I always get so much joy out of attending Worldcons - so many notes to take, so many wonderful people I meet for the first or second or fifth time. The best of the best is when I walk up to the table after a panel and someone goes “IT’S YOU”. and I get to go “it’s me :)” 💜
- Went to Leigh Bardugo’s reading earlier, and she gave some context for the passage she was reading from partway through Ninth House, the whole room cracked up.
- Was doing some personal housekeeping while listening during the Libraries panel, but i did get one quote written down. @adapalmer.bsky.social was talking about the connections made between readers, and with curators, when reading the same book; many of whom you don’t know the names of.
- At the libraries panel, the moderator asked how many members of the audience had library cards open at multiple libraries, and actively used them — and almost the entire room raised their hands
- As someone with a separate, simpler coffee shop name, thank you 💜💜💜
