- I def agree that there are multiple alpha rhythms. (I think the whole field agrees?) here, fixed 'archetypal' alpha components are identified & peak frequency variation across subjects is explained by relative contribution of archetypal components within a subject. interesting, but maybe odd?
- 🚨 New preprint! What if individual alpha peak frequency—often treated as a global marker of brain function and clinical phenotypes—actually reflects a mixture of independent alpha rhythms with distinct frequencies and neural origins? That’s what @davidpascucci.bsky.social and I suggest here. #EEG
- Hi @nschawor.bsky.social, thanks for the feedback! Indeed, as we mention, previous studies already suggest that there may be multiple alpha sources, with topographies and spectral profiles quite similar to those we found, and here we show their stability and how they relate to IAPF (and age). ...
- The main question for us is really how representative a single value like the IAPF actually is and whether we are missing something important by relying on a single value. ...
- Your paper looks very interesting and seems to take a quite different approach. I’ll read it more in detail and get back to you by email, in case, so we can chat more about this (including the fPCA approach we used).Jan 26, 2026 17:31
