- I've been seeing this advance ever since I was hired in the 90s. There are a whole lot of people who rely on research universities for lots of reasons, and none of those needs will be addressed in whatever post-tenure regime the culture warriors end up with.
- This has slowly been happening at all but flagship public universities. This would accelerate the practice, and I expect more states (including some blue states) to follow suit in the coming years.
