Le then says, in so many words, the horse is driving the cart. ICE is calling the shots in these cases and they don't understand civil court at all, so I can't get them to comply. This is also her first reference to threatening to quit.
And this is where we get the infamous "This job sucks" comment, but the context is even crazier. Le is saying, "Your Honor, I'm actually the good guy here, I was able to get someone released. I'm trying to get them to comply." She's literally starting into the "you need me on that wall" argument!
Feb 4, 2026 21:26Judge Blackwell basically says "okay, what are you doing to get them to comply," and Le actually says "I write an e-mail with big, bold font. I CC Ms. Voss in it and I said, here's what it fail and we need to fix it." That's her grand act of internal resistance: emails!!!
Something I found particularly galling: Judge Blackwell gives a long speech about the government's incredibly intransigence and malicious compliance with his orders, saying "I have to put conditions on release because you're all so nasty to detainees."
Le's response? I get it, I'm not white. BUT
and while what comes next is the My Cousin Vinnie bit, the context here is also wild. Le is saying "You have to be patient with ICE, they're just a wittle bitty federal law enforcement agency. You have to be patient with them while they learn to follow the law."
