- Two interesting takeaways from a @404media.co interview with Chris Gilliard (www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kBg...) 1. Police bodycams can be thought of as a mobile network of government surveillance devices 2. Apple watches (and really iPhones) can be thought of like high tech ankle monitors
- Reposted by Daniel S. KatzLast term I tried an experiment: I walked into my Tech and Design Ethics class, admitted that I had *no idea* what to do about ChatGPT - so I would let them figure it out. As in: their first project was to decide and write the ChatGPT policy for the class. Here's what happened:

- Reposted by Daniel S. KatzIf you can substitute "hungry ghost trapped in a jar" for "AI" in a sentence it's probably a valid use case for LLMs. Take "I have a bunch of hungry ghosts in jars, they mainly write SQL queries for me". Sure. Reasonable use case. "My girlfriend is a hungry ghost I trapped in a jar"? No. Deranged.

- 2nd and 3rd new bird species of the year today in Long Beach, CA, USA, thanks to eBird rare bird alerts: Grace's Warbler (here naturally) and Swinhoe's White-Eye (part of a rapidly expanding group of escapees in this part of the LA area) #Birds #BirdPhotography
- Given the state & prevalence of LLMs today, I wonder if there's any value in student personal and research statements as part of grad school applications. When I read very similar statements from very different students, I find it hard to trust them. I also wonder about their recommendation letters.
