- 1/ This article may either miscommunicates or misidentifies the origins of the song By G-d We'll Have Our Home Again. It is true that it's a rip-off of Old Maui. It is unlikely that it has merely "become associated" with white nationalism. The song was likely released by a neo-Nazi group.
- The Trump administration has come under scrutiny for using two phrases that critics have said reflect Nazi slogans.
- 2/ @newsweek.com references the "version" by Pine Tree Riots. Earlier reporting tends to attribute the original version of song to the Mannerbund (www.antihate.ca/ppc_riding_d...). What Newsweek is missing is that the Pine Tree Riots version is, as far as we know, *the original.* Audio is identical.
- 3/ Crucially, Newsweek is missing that this exact version of the song is the one DHS posted to Instagram, with credit to Pine Tree Roots. The song itself only appears while using an IG mobile app, so it's easy to miss. Intercept has since reported this. theintercept.com/2026/01/13/d...
- 4/ This is relevant because A. again, if you listen to the audio, Pine Tree Roots is the same as the Mannerbund. B. The Mannerbund has released other songs with identical-sounding voices that were never released by Pine Tree Roots. This suggests to me that PTR is a simple pseudonym.
- 5/ If you conclude PTR is a pseudonym, then the next conclusion is that Department of Homeland Security directly posted the Mannerbund. And because the Mannerbund is an explicitly neo-Nazi group composed of weird little guys who are fanatical about William Luther Pierce, this is sort of noteworthy!
- 6/ @theintercept.com came to this conclusion, because it's a reasonable one! theintercept.com/2026/01/13/d...
