- Sheri is not going to like that I have been watching YouTube videos of people going to different London Bookstores so I can plan my attack when we get there in June. She likes bookstores but not like I like bookstores!
- I have been sick for a week. I told my body to cut it out today. It doesn’t seem to be listening.

- I started doing monthly book boxes from Goldsboro Books & The Broken Binding (they are also beautiful) is the chance to discover a writer I have not read before. This last month that happened with a bang. I loved….loved…loved Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse. @rebeccaroanhorse.bsky.social
- Easily one of my favorites books of the year. If you are a fan of fantasy and want to try something that bends the genre a little bit I can’t recommend it enough.
- Dear @thebrokenbinding.bsky.social you would be my best friend forever if you did Watership Down. I mean I don’t think anyone has done this book and that is a crime.

- I am kind of in the mood to read a Star Wars novel. Does anyone have a recommendation for one that has come out in the last few years.
- @kenarmstrong.bsky.social I just wanted to let you know that at long last we are taking our UK trip that got cancelled because of Covid. We have decided to add in Ireland to the trip. So next summer end of June beginning of July we will have to make sure we connect this time.

- How is it that a holiday I loved so much as a kid, I can not stand at all anymore.
- One of my summer projects is to watch all the original Doctor Who series I can stream or buy. I am currently on season 1 episode 6. I can’t wait to get to the Tom Baker seasons. He was my childhood Doctor Who and I can remember how excited I was when they showed new episodes in the US.
- I am also planning on reading a bunch of new and old Doctor Who books. I used to scour used bookstores when I was a kid searching for the Terrance Dick books.
- You really want to blow your mind about the passage of time. Go look at the songs in Apple Music’s Classic Rock playlist. There are songs by the Strokes, Offspring, Foo Fighters on it. Just fuck off with that nonsense.
- I have found that as the news gets worse, the number of books I read dramatically increases. Using fiction as stress relief has been a life long coping mechanism.
- Today was the last day of school. When the year started there was a very good chance it was going to be the last day of my career. After 31 years of teaching I was prepared to be done. Then something interesting happened.
- They asked me to be a reading intervention teacher. The class turned into part teaching the joy of reading, part counseling, part homework helper. I loved it and decided I wasn’t done. I am coming back for one last year. I don’t know what this says about my sanity but I’ll worry about that later.
- I just received an advance reading copy of The Blackfire Blade by James Logan and I am floating on a cloud of book nerd.
- Dept. Q on Netflix is a banger. A great adaption of a great book. If you have never read the book by Jussi Adler-Olsen make sure you do. It is actually a Nordic Noir so you will get a slightly different jolt then the Netflix series gives you.
- I took a deep dive in the internet pond last night. I was looking for publishers that do limited editions of crime novels. There doesn’t seem to be many. I really want to convince someone to do the Travis McGee novels by John D. MacDonald. @brianjamesfreeman.bsky.social
- I just received the Advance Reading Copy of Denzil Meyrick’s last DCI Daley book. This makes me sad. Someday I will reread them but Denzil not being here any more is still startling to think about.
- Tonight the music is Marina, and The Marias live from Coachella. The Scotch is Red Breast 12 years. The book is The Kill by Jane Casey.
- Why yes, I am drinking whiskey and watching Amyl and the Sniffers at Coachella.
- Tonight the book is The Dentist by Tim Sullivan. The Whiskey is Straight Rye from Frey Ranch. The music is Coachella on YouTube (currently Marina. Later the Go-Go’s and Lady Gaga.
- Yesterday in my journal I asked myself is there one story that rises above the rest.It was a tough question because I read a lot. I was surprised at how quickly my brain provided the answer. “Repent, Harlequin!” Said the Ticktockman by Harlan Ellison has lived rent free in my brain my entire life.
- Today’s Thursday kept feeling like a Friday. Very disappointing that I still have to go to work tomorrow.
- I am learning to navigate IBS. It has been a difficult process because making a few bad food choices will mess up your week.
- Tonight I celebrate my Irish heritage by cracking open a bottle of my favorite Whiskey Redbreast 12 years.
- Tonight the book is A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett. The Scotch is Glenfiddich 14 year bourbon reserve. The music Samantha Fish.
- The surest sign of my body losing the ge battle is that I am now having hip pain from walking too much…..walking for goodness sake.

- Tonight the book is Everyone in my family has killed someone by Benjamin Stevenson. The Scotch is Aberfeldy aged 16 years. The music is Samantha Fish who is without a doubt my favorite musician right now.
