- New paper on dementia diagnosis trends in Denmark out in SSM's special issue on "Understanding cognitive ageing: individuals, institutions, and inequalities" 🥳 We examined nearly four decades of data (1986-2023) to understand how age, period, and birth cohort shape dementia diagnosis patterns 🔎
- Another week, another paper! @cosmostrozza.bsky.social, @oskardj.bsky.social, & I conducted a scoping age-period-cohort analysis of dementia diagnosis in Denmark, 1866-2023. Read more!
- Slowing longevity gains and diverse health trends mean healthcare systems must prepare for new challenges. Understanding how ageing and time-to-death determine healthcare costs is critical for future planning. It was a privilege to collaborate on this important update with fantastic colleagues 🙌
- Our paper "Ageing populations: new challenges in longevity" updating Christensen et al. (2009) is out! This was one of the first tasks Jim Vaupel gave me 5 years ago & grateful to have worked with 3 of the original authors plus 2 CPop colleagues to bring this to fruition @cosmostrozza.bsky.social

- Reposted by Cosmo Strozza🇩🇰 Denmark is proud about its low inequality (and rightfully so! few countries do better) Yet, in current Danish society, the richest quarter of males have a 5% risk of not surviving in the age period 50-65; for the poorest quarter of males this figure is… 22%🤯 And this gap is increasing 🤨
- Mortality stagnates for Denmark's lowest socioeconomic groups while decreasing for highest, driving widening survival gaps to retirement ‼️ Check out our newest publication in @genus.bsky.social with @svigezzi.bsky.social @juliacalla.bsky.social @sandrsalek.bsky.social @ikashnitsky.phd

- A major finding is that across 19 cohorts of retirees, consistently almost 1 in 4 low-income men do not survive between age 50 and retirement while high-income men's survival improved dramatically from 1 in 10 to 1 in 20 as shown in the figure below (panel c) 👀

- In our newly published study in @bmj.com, we find that sex, marital status, education, and race contribute to an 18-year lifespan gap among US citizens. Using a scoring system, we evaluate how combinations of these factors impact lifespan and identify subpopulations at higher risk of early death☠️

- Indexing retirement age to life expectancy has diverging effects across SES groups in Denmark and Sweden 📣 It prevents the low-SES from catching up with others in survival to retirement while reducing life expectancy at retirement more for the high-SES 🔍 🔗 link.springer.com/article/10.1...

- Social inequalities in mortality expanded during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic in Denmark☠️🇩🇰 Our N-IUSSP article presents life expectancy changes and highlights the causes of death that contributed to these changes👇 @svigezzi.bsky.social @juliacalla.bsky.social @jmaburto.bsky.social
- Single people living alone face higher mortality and age at death variation before 65, regardless of their education. The mortality gap with other sub-populations widened across Danish cohorts 1936-1954, and would be even larger if retirement age was 67/70 🇩🇰☠️
- New paper out with @cosmostrozza.bsky.social on inequalities in reaching retirement age by living arrangement in Denmark, showing persistent inequalities across cohorts. You can find it on Demographic Research! doi.org/10.4054/DemR...
- Despite migrants' advantage, there's a high probability (40-50%) that non-migrants will outsurvive migrants post-retirement. In Denmark, we compare migrants to non-migrants by income group, for a more complete picture 🔍 Work with @juliacalla.bsky.social Sven Drefahl Eleonora Mussino @ikashnitsky.phd
- At retirement age, non-European-born migrants have a survival advantage in Denmark and Sweden, but also greater lifespan inequality. New study, part of the Special Collection in honor of Jim Vaupel: www.demographic-research.org/articles/vol...
- Reposted by Cosmo StrozzaDenmark and Sweden index retirement age to life expectancy. Migrants live longer than non-migrants.
