- Teachers, if you are taking part in Empathy Day or other things ‘empathy’, you can get FREE guides for each book from Empathy Lab.
- Honoured to see Jakub’s Otter featured in the 2026 Read for Empathy Collection, esp in this National Year of Reading. This fantastic collection of 65 books for 3-16+ yr olds (curated by librarians, booksellers, teachers, academics) all help to encourage empathy in their readers.

- I’ve spent most of the day rereading this, ready for an interview I’m doing. So much fun. Pure genius.
- COVER REVEAL DAY! It’s that day when authors believe their story will become a physical thing readers can hold, rather than just inhabiting their imagination. 😆 Can’t wait to take you to Cornwall very soon! @troikabooks.bsky.social #CoverReveal

- I hate form filling. There’s often not an ‘occupation’ box for an author/poet to tick. I sometimes describe my job as ‘Pretending’, so we need a box like that.

- I’ve been looking for a watertight excuse for a long time.

- It’s been one of those admin days when each time you tick something off your list, you find it’s immediately replaced by 2 new tasks, and then you book yourself into a hotel on the wrong dates.

- I was writing in a coffee shop today. People are very loud. It’s amazing how often some people say ‘literally’. I was tempted to share this poem.

- Hello Blueskyland. It’s National Bubble Wrap Day in the UK, so I offer this poem to celebrate jointly my love of the seaside and popping bubble wrap! ( From ‘Things That Should Be in a Poem’) #poem

- Outrageous kindness. Our musician/producer son has become significantly deaf this year, in one ear, and is awaiting an operation. His hearing is his job. Today, this arrived from Fender (they’ve only made 500) just saying he deserves it for being extremely good at what he does.

- This is so sadly true.
- Reposted by coralrumble2026 is the National Year of Reading and here is the first in my ONE MINUTE INTERVIEW series to introduce books through their creators, and give a flavour for each book and its interesting creation process! This week you’ll meet incomparable author and illustrator @louiestowell.bsky.social ❤️
- Having a moment. The publishing process still feels like magic. This year my laptop words will become real book words, so I’ll be able to introduce you to Arlo Skinner and his family.
- It’s always heartening to receive a photo from a teacher that proves one of your older books is reaching a new readership. A big thank you to all teachers who seek to encourage authors. X
- I’ve enjoyed a little dalliance with social media today, but I doubt I’ll be back tomorrow. Let me leave you with this advice.

- According to Save the Children, “Only one in four children play out regularly”. They are missing out on so much.
- I know I'm not on here much right now, but I'm having a Billy Collins binge, and I keep on wanting to share the joy. This one has amused me so much this morning, l've given in to the 'share urge’.

- If you don’t see me on social media so often this year, it’s because I’m opting for a simpler life. Here’s the shortest poem from a new collection, that sums it up.
- Enjoying a stroll under bright skies in London. Had to visit ‘Glow’ one more time before they dismantle the light box on Twelfth Night. A tidy and pleasing jaunt as we’re going to see Twelfth Night at The Barbican this evening!
- Won’t be on socials tonight (I know, story of my life), so let me simply say, may 2026 offer you new, exciting paths to explore, and old, familiar tracks where you can rest. X
- Escaping social media for a while, to enjoy real life with less commentary. Some kind friends will occasionally alert me if there’s something I should respond to. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
- I spy my little otter. Thank you @schoolreadinglist.bsky.social
- When your lovely neighbours go to London for a family celebration, but manage to schedule in a visit to Trafalgar Square, then send you photos.🥹
- Poetry Review arrived today from the @poetrysociety.org.uk , along with the Winter Edition of Poetry News. Thank you for the chuckle!
- What will supermarkets fill their children’s book shelves with?
- I’m avoiding social media much of the time right now, but came on to say THIS IS FAB. @attielime.bsky.social carefully crafts the simple until it sparkles.
- I visited a library this term, where the adult areas were as much fun as the children’s space. There should be more funding so this spreads!

- So grateful that Jakub’s Otter is being received so well in Turkey. Güner Kılıç is an influential reviewer who has said lovely things, including the 2 translated snippets here. @troikabooks.bsky.social

- As I’ve said, I won’t be on here so regularly now, so I’ll take this opportunity to say I wish you a Merry Christmas, full of light. X Poem commissioned by @poetrysociety.org.uk 2025.

- Now end of term is near, I’ll only be visiting the world of social media occasionally. One reason is to avoid the ‘BEST’ books of the year lists. ‘My Favourites’ is fine. I can always think of at least 5 books not listed! Shouldn’t you have read ALL the books to make that claim?
- I’ve just raced over the finish line of my last writing deadline of the year! (I say ‘raced’ but, in truth, there’s been a bit of limping, too.) #WIP
