- Former home of Chicago Fire Department Engine 114 at 3542 W. Fullerton Ave. Built in 1907, motorized in 1921, and disbanded in Feb. 1969 with its members sent to other units. Postcard image circa 1908.

- On April 28, 1955, a blaze broke out at the Green Mill Hotel at 518 N. Green Street which caused the deaths of seven occupants and two firefighters. Women and children were among the 85 residents at this transient hotel. FROM THE ARCHIVES: Chicago's Skid Row Flophouse Fires bit.ly/49u4WXL

- To research later. Saw this on Lawrence Ave. (between Avers and Springfield) earlier today. Can't believe I've never spotted this sign before.
- The Barton Hotel at 644 W. Madison offered 336 transient rooms, each measuring 4 feet by 6 feet. At the top of the 7-foot walls were chicken-wire ceilings. In Feb. of 1955, a fire broke out that would claim the lives of 29 men. FROM THE ARCHIVES: Chicago's Skid Row Flophouse Fires bit.ly/49u4WXL
