- Reposted by Christy Quirkagain, for everyone: when people believe their right to vote is threatened, they get angrier and will counter-mobilize. when people think their vote won't be counted or will be stolen, they are less likely to turn out.
- I think this would have the opposite effect of what is intended. Instead of supressing the vote you’re going to end up with angry people even more determined to cast a ballot bsky.app/profile/marc...

They say working together has brought them community and connection. And they're seeing shifts in attitudes among their neighbors. www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

- Reposted by Christy QuirkRemember like 15 years ago, when Russian dash cams of horrible accidents went viral? And everyone in Russia was using them because they couldn’t trust the authorities? Fundamentally, the dash cam and the body cam are the visual record of a failed state. They are a symptom posing as a substitute

- Reposted by Christy QuirkThis, along with the seizure of ballots and voting data, is another massive red flag for Americans: This is the kind of thing authoritarians say and do when they are preparing to rig the vote. They are preparing to steal your vote, and you have to take action now to stop them.
- Reposted by Christy QuirkAs I've been saying: defending democracy requires being appropriately alarmed. "There won't be elections!!" is an absurd and counterproductive line, but "they can't possibly do anything bc the federal government doesn't run elections and they don't have the manpower" is unwarranted complacency.
- You don't have to believe that the fascists are competent enough to suppress voting everywhere in 2026 or 2028. You just have to believe that they can depress minority turnout in 5-10 cities to affect entire Senate races & the Electoral College. 2024 was decided by 120K votes in 3 states, after all.

- Reposted by Christy QuirkI think it is OUTRAGEOUS that people are LEAPING to the conclusion that some our post prominent Americans are child rapists when it is EQUALLY PLAUSIBLE that they are simply indifferent to whether other people are child rapists so long as those other people can offer them access to power.

- Reposted by Christy QuirkI have begun to think that Minnesota pushback to ICE was unique and a model because it gave people something to do. It wasn’t about just going out in streets for rallying purposes. People had a mission: videos, whistles, information and communication flow to communities. They had something to do.
