- Reposted by Carolina Sanchez-RochaHappy to share Piecing Together the History of Protein Folds From a Fragmented Evolutionary Record 🧪 It appears as part of a Special Section in @genomebiolevol.bsky.social organized by @cpuentelelievre.bsky.social @proteinmechanic.bsky.social and J. Douglas doi.org/10.1093/gbe/...
- Reposted by Carolina Sanchez-RochaHow does catalysis emerge from non-catalytic domains? In our new paper, we show that catalytic activity can arise without conserved active-site residues — through multimerization and electrostatic features instead. A striking case of catalysis evolving from binding.
- @claudele.bsky.social et al. studied the fundamental question of how enzymatic activity emerges by focusing on type B dihydrofolate reductases, suggesting DfrB domains evolved rudimentary catalysis from a binding capacity. 🔗 doi.org/10.1093/molbev/msaf215 #evobio #molbio
- 🌍ProSE Online Talk 📅 Tue Sep 9 | 🕔 5pm CET How does protein sequence → structure → function really work? Prof. Nir Ben-Tal will show how AI (CLSS) is reshaping our view of the protein universe and uncovering hidden evolutionary design. 🚀 Don’t miss this! Registration: tinyurl.com/prose-seminar2
