David Calavera
I enjoy reading lots of books, and building open source tools for 🦀 developers.
I hope you like dogs.
- This is good read about the state of open source and AI. Unfortunately, I'm skeptic about GitHub doing something to make things better. So far, their latest changes in PRs, splitting large PRs in one page per file(WTF), make reviewing code generated by AI worse, no better 🤷♂️
- The amount of AI slop is going to burnout a lot of people. I am really tired already, it takes a great amount of mental power to process all the AI slop and they create it at an amazing speed. tldraw.dev/blog/stay-aw...
- Kona doing her best @firefox.com impersonation
- When I maintained the Rust runtime for AWS Lambda, trying to cross-compile OpenSSL because it's the default tls backend in reqwest was the top issue for people starting with the runtime. I'm very happy that I was able to provide a little bit of help to remove that category of problems all together.
- To end the year, a new major version of #rustlang reqwest, v0.13.0 is out! 🚀 - This brings rustls by default, replacing native-tls. 🦀 - Some feature and method cleanup. - But easy to upgrade for most everyone. seanmonstar.com/blog/reqwest...

- Reposted by David CalaveraJust published a new #rustlang reqwest release candidate: v0.13.0-rc.1. This has some breaking changes, the biggest was switching to rustls by default. I'd appreciate if you gave it a spin 🙏 github.com/seanmonstar/...

- I hadn’t done a dog photoshoot in a while. Our neighbor Nova is a spunky little Australian shepherd pup that cannot stay put for more than 5 seconds.

- AWS has promoted the Rust runtime for AWS Lambda from experimental to GA. Not much has changed in the runtime, but their customers will have official support from the company. I’m glad it finally happened, but it’s still a bittersweet moment for me: aws.amazon.com/blogs/comput...
- Sirius, one of my favorite dogs at the shelter, got a room upgrade. Now he just needs a house upgrade.
- Sneak preview of @tensorlake.ai's agents runtime. A new durable, parallel and isolated execution model for deep research agents. Text this number with a financial research question to see it in action - +1-217-601-5252! We're currently in private beta. I can't wait to make it GA!

- The company I work for, @tensorlake.ai, is hiring a couple of roles remote within the US: tensorlake.ai/careers You might be a great fit if you like working with Rust, Python, K8s, me?, and you enjoy building products for developers.
- this is just rude
- Anthropic owes me money, yay!
- Hey authors, the official list of Anthropic works is available for searching. secure.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com/lookup
- Me: I’m not sure if we should add this feature, it might confuse customers. Me, five minutes later: oh, I just checked the code and I actually implemented it three days ago. I completely forgot about that.
- Enjoy Benji in slow-mo
- This was the welcome committee at the shelter this morning
- I’ve spent the last two weeks deleting a bunch of code someone wrote with Claude Code. Guess how I feel about coding agents these days.
- Oh, no, I got puppy fever!
- I can understand using AI coding tools to help with with work, what I cannot understand is AI generated code with 0 tests. Like how did you manage to do that? Any coding tool these days will spit an ungodly amount of tests whether you like it or not

- Fear not, this is still mostly a dogs account. Here are two impossible friends trying to play tag
- Job update: a couple of weeks ago, I joined @tensorlake.ai full time. I’m having a lot of fun building the product with @diptanu.bsky.social and the rest of this wonderful team. We have a few open positions if you’d like to work with us: www.linkedin.com/jobs/search/...
