- The late Shirley Raines poured herself into bringing compassion to unhoused communities in California and Nevada, giving hygiene products and food to as many people as possible day after day. She showed millions the difference one can make by providing a neighbor with a meal, a makeover, and care.
- the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

- I think often of the women in the Louis CK story—how they all left comedy and never went back, but he’s still going. It’s everywhere and it’s such a loss for them and for us—for things they’ll never make that we’ll never see.

- This is only related in a sideways manner, but: the story of any small slice of humanity is the story of humanity, just boiled down and distilled. So: In 2020, we had a lot of conversations about harassment at SF/F conventions, and Isaac Asimov came up several times.
-
View full threadAnd when people tried to make this part of the conversation, they were told "don't speak ill of the dead" and "we're walking on foundations he built, give the man his grace." But all those girls--dozens, based on confirmed accounts, maybe hundreds, based on the time scale at play--didn't come back.
- "We would have lost so much if we'd driven him away" is the justification. But we lost all those girls. We lost the women they would have become. We lost the work they would have done. Why was his future work so much more valuable than theirs?

- It's not just the women and girls we know of. It's all their future work, and everything they could have been, and how we build structures that shelter their abusers. It's how a man's future has always been worth more than my past, present, and future combined.
- I was just denied entry to the Dilley detention facility while my constituent, seven-year-old Diana, remains inside. What kind of sick, horrific conditions are children being forced to endure in there? I will be back tomorrow. Accountability can’t wait.
- Swear to god, ICE could just announce they're leaving a city but not leave and the media will just stop covering that city completely even though ICE never left. It's what ICE and the media did with LA and they're doing it with Minneapolis too

- Woohooooo, here we go! Episcopal consecration without permission is a "latae sententiae" excommunication, ie, the excommunication is automatic and at the instant the offense is committed. www.vatican.va/archive/cod-...

- Here is a thing: There were several years when I was one of VERY few journalists seriously covering harassment and abuse issues in comics (and by extension sometimes video games). During that time, I became the Person People Told Things To. (cont'd)

- All I can say as someone who has spoken out publicly about my own sexual assault I applaud you for not only your ongoing activism but all the untold amounts of emotional labor- listening to so many others stories and aiding them in times of crisis. Seriously thank you. 🫶

- My entire generational cohort of female editors--who were pretty numerous--is gone from DH. Many of them no longer work in the comics industry. This is not exceptional. I cannot emphasize how exceptional this is not.

- Made some really flavorful rice today, for the rest of my curry because I ran out of the pre-packaged stuff. Rinsed my rice for the first time today too 🫣 And then also stumbled upon this great YT video on whether or not you should be doing that: youtu.be/B3CHsbNkr3c
- What made it so flavorful, is that I added in a teaspoon of bouillon mixture, Himalayan pink salt, and a tablespoon of butter. And then I microwaved a package of mixed vegetables to put that in for some more nutrition, if I just wanted to eat a bowl of it like I did this morning lol.
- Now, none of this sounds like a big deal. But I physically have not been able to do this for 5 years. So being able to make something so simple taste good, feels really good, and reminds me of my healthier days when I could spend time making my food. Now off to sleep for the next 2 days straight
- Hollywood producer Barry Josephson to Jeffrey Epstein: “I've been thinking a lot about that question that you asked bill gates 'how do we get rid of poor people as a whole'"
- These people convinced you vaccines were dangerous and that scientists were lying and clinical trials weren’t real. That you could cure cancer with beet roots. That you could pay $1000 to have a shaman pray away your diabetes. You all let a group of pedophiles convince YOU to kill your own kids.
- @wyden.senate.gov's record of warning that there is deep and constitutionally-serious dirt being done by the intelligence agencies in secret is unblemished. The vaguer he is, the filthier the dirt is. This is the vaguest I've ever seen him

- cannot possibly convey how actually crazy-making it can feel, after spending 20 years monitoring all these orgs blaming sex workers and the internet for enabling a vast sex trafficking network, to now see Jeffery Epstein’s inbox
- cops: sex trafficking victims are impossible to find! most of them don’t even know they’ve been trafficked. dozens of women over decades: here’s our sworn statements about jeff epstein cops: … prosecutors: … anti-trafficking task forces: … cops: we have no choice but to do a craigslist sting
- Seeing a lot of people "resigning" after being discovered to be pen pals with Epstein and not a lot of people "shooting themselves in the mouth" or "being drawn and quartered"
- This guy was an MFA chair at my alma mater and for some reason he was allowed to resign from his position instead of being put in an iron maiden and air lifted into prison?? abcnews.go.com/amp/Entertai...
