- Reposted by Ignacio RebolloNew preprint with Nicolai Wolpert and Catherine Tallon-Baudry ! Reaction times across three distinct perceptual tasks (total N = 90) varied with the electrical rhythm of the stomach. #neuroskyence
- Perceptual reaction times are coupled to the gastric electrical rhythm biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/20…
- Reposted by Ignacio RebolloOver the years, I have written a few Jupyter/Rmd/Matlab notebooks that attempt to teach some statistical concepts, particularly in neuroimaging. You can find them here: www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/people/rik.h..., though I will say a bit more about each one in a number of posts over next few days.
- I'm starting to build the lab's library, and would love hear your #1 essential book recommendation in Autonomic Neuroscience / Interoception, stats for Neuro/Psy science and any other must-have lab bible
- these books were really useful during my PhD. What about yours? - Analyzing Neural Time Series Data - Practical MATLAB for Brain and Cognitive Scientists - Handbook of Psychophysiology - The Integrative Action of the Autonomic Nervous System - Handbook of Electrogastrography
- Hive mind: what resources would you recommend for students with little or no coding experience who want to learn MATLAB for cognitive neuroscience? I'm thinking (free) online courses or books
- Reposted by Ignacio RebolloAre you curious about electrogastrography, but keep getting chicken-related results when googling "EGG"? We have the preprint for you! In this tutorial, we describe how to acquire and analyse gastric data from human participants. Plus FREE software! Read it here: arxiv.org/abs/2509.17260

- Reposted by Ignacio RebolloSo happy this paper is now out in @plosbiology.org! We investigated whether fluctuations in MEPs can be explained by phasic influences from internal bodily rhythms, and whether this might happen independently per organ system. #interoception #neuroskyence
- How do internal bodily rhythms influence #brain activity & motor function? @tahnee-engelen.bsky.social &co show that #cardiac, #respiratory & #gastric rhythms independently modulate motor excitability, revealing distinct #interoceptive profiles across individuals @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/4nMtpLT
- Thank you @dalmaijer.bsky.social for this excellent spotlight on our stomach-brain synchrony research! The analysis beautifully highlights how "more interoception isn't always better", it's about the context and interpretation of bodily signals.
- In this @cp-trendsneuro.bsky.social Spotlight, I describe how a recent paper by @leahbanellis.bsky.social, @brainandstomach.bsky.social, et al. opens new avenues in interoception research, including those focussed on the subjective interpretation of internal signals: www.cell.com/trends/neuro...
- Reposted by Ignacio RebolloPreprint - Excited to present WHOLISTIC, which extends the concept of whole-brain functional imaging to the entire body. Pioneering work by incredibly talented Virginia Ruetten @vmsruetten.bsky.social, this platform reveals whole-organism cellular dynamics in vivo. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

- Exciting news: I’ve been awarded an ERC Starting Grant for my project GUT-FEEL: Gut influences on brain and mind🥳#ERCStG @erc.europa.eu
- We all know the phrase “gut feeling.” But beyond the metaphor, the gut is anatomically connected to brain systems controlling arousal, mood, and behavior
- GUT-FEEL will explore how the contractions and secretions of the gut shape brain activity, cognition, and mood by combining methods such as electrogastrography (EGG), fMRI, EEG, and hormone sampling

- Reposted by Ignacio RebolloAre interoception and mental health linked? Many assume so, with interoception even described as a psychiatric “p-factor.” But in our latest preprint, we were surprised to find little evidence for such a connection. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1... 🧵 Thread with our reflections on the matter 👇
- Reposted by Ignacio Rebollo📜[PUBLICATION ALERT]📜 I had the honour to be co-first author of this huge effort to advance dream science and our understanding of conscious experience during sleep. In Nature Communications rdcu.be/eAwni. @naotsuchiya.bsky.social @thomasandrillon.bsky.social #sleep #dreams #EEG
- Reposted by Ignacio RebolloYou’re now breathing manually 🌬️ What underlies this ability to be consciously aware of own breathing? In our new Journal of Neuroscience paper, we report the largest study to date linking brain microstructure to respiratory interoception. www.jneurosci.org/content/earl... 🧵 👇
- Our paper with @leahbanellis.bsky.social and @micahgallen.com was just published in Nature Mental Health! In a large neuroimaging study (n=243), we show that stronger coupling between the stomach and frontoparietal brain regions predicts poorer mental health
- Got Butterflies in your Stomach? I am super excited to share the first major study of my postdoc @the-ecg.bsky.social - Now out in @natmentalhealth.nature.com! We report a multidimensional mental health signature of stomach-brain coupling in the largest sample to date www.nature.com/articles/s44...
- This findings position the stomach, not just the heart and the lungs, as a core player in emotional well-being, offering new targets for interoceptive interventions.
- Very grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with these amazing researchers and hopefully many more brain-stomach findings to com

- Reposted by Ignacio RebolloThere are concerns that Bluesky's impact has faded since the initial hype. This is false. That impression results from reading headlines about social media instead of the hard data. The five HIGHEST points of Bluesky posts mentioning research all occur in the last 2 weeks.

Thrilled to share our new study, led by @ashleytyrer.bsky.social , where we use computational modeling to show that blockading peripheral noradrenaline uniquely alters awareness of heart rate & breathing! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... 🧵👇

I’m excited to share our new study, which shows that blockade of peripheral beta-adrenergic pathways improves cardiac and respiratory interoception in unique ways! 🧵 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
