- At press time, it remained unclear whether adults should be held responsible for their actions.
- Pour one out for every professional political pundit, writer, consultant whatever that has spent the last decade trying to pretend that the Trump phenomenon was about trade or opiates and not a big chunk of white america losing its mind over having a black president bsky.app/profile/kyle...

- JD Vance is the most loathsome character in American politics, and it's mostly because he's immediately recognizable to anyone with an interest in politics as The Worst Guy From Your PoliSci Class
- that tweet about how vance has 4chan politics with tumblr cadence - "pretty problematic of you to want to tax the rich when there's literally a (checks notes) white genocide going on right now"
- If I were a different person, maybe I’d share some of the nasty responses I got last spring when - amid the CECOT flights - @andreapitzer.bsky.social @chenoweth.bsky.social and I put on a seminar on concentration camps. Outrage over “offensive” and “overblown” comparisons. Wish they’d been right.
- This can get votes now and is a realistic first step towards more action when they have the Congress.

- Nothing in this list stops what's happening or even meaningfully slows it down, and that's before the part where they're already signaling the masks, for example, could be conditionally ok. I've also yet to see an evidence-based argument for how body cams will help.
- "DOGE’s objective was never to save taxpayer dollars. Musk did not 'fail'...DOGE was—and remains, through Vought’s OMB—an effort to extinguish the existing government and create a new one in the image of oligarchs and far-right ideologues."
- What’s even the point in watching then

- The GOP has offered nothing this century except for catastrophic wars. No healthcare plan; no re-industrialization. Now they're losing their only issue, immigration, as people see the violence and havoc that comes with mass deportations.

- Like if executing people point-blank in the street wasn’t evidence enough, DHS is abandoning pets when they abduct their victims. Not to mention pets who don’t get fed when their humans don’t come home. It’s an entire agency of puppy killers and it starts at the top.
- Really nuts how many men were like "Me Too went too far, and I need to email Jeffrey Epstein about it."

- i suppose it’s fitting that the model the billionaires have in mind when they want to destroy a journalistic institution and make it a reactionary slop machine is The Free Press
- one thing you have to understand about helen andrews is she is genuinely stupid
- The mass layoffs at the Washington Post feel worse than the ones made during 2020, especially after the ones at NBC News, CBS, and the WSJ. So many smart and experienced people will leave the industry forever.
- A lot of people cannot just start a paid newsletter or become freelancers to sustain their careers. The sports, metro, and international desks did work that requires *team* resources, like legal checks, documents, access to archives, and long-term beat experience.
- this is a wicked man who knows he is being wicked and does it anyway
- It would be super funny* if Pope Leo excommunicated this man. *likely with some political ramifications that I have not considered, but hey I’m just dreaming
- i can’t imagine a parent who wouldn’t sell little JD for percocet if they knew he would turn out like this bsky.app/profile/parm...
- to be a bit serious one irony of vance’s life is that he is also an addict: addicted to power and clearly willing to sell anything to get it
- like, do you see that smirk? that brief “ain’t i a stinker” grin? beneath contempt.
- If the plan was just to put WaPo to work for Bezos's other business interests, I'm pretty sure they could have done that in a less shambolic fashion. So while Bezos's attempts to cozy up to the regime are for sure part of the problem, don't discount his hubris, myopia, and petulance.

- The next topic in our sports issue is gambling, the 2nd-highest service-sector industry for GDP growth between 2019 and 2024(!). It has taken over games, leagues, state treasuries, and of course the mostly male bettors, who trend young. Really young. Middle school young. prospect.org/2026/02/04/f...

- Every day Mamdani comes out and is like "hey guys, I turned off the orphan-crushing machine. Literally just had to flip a switch. Took less than 5 minutes." After decades of dem leadership pissing and moaning and fundraising about how complex an issue it is and how difficult the process is etc
- Dem leadership for generations: no you fool, you infant. It is a process. It takes time and political capital and expertise, it's- Mamdani, dusting off his hands: fixed it Dem leadership: what do you mean you fixed it Mamdani: Just had to unplug it.
