- #SiameseDream is still one of my favourite albums of all time. Nothing has really come close to matching its strangeness and beauty. The #SmashingPumpkins delivered a real gem, which can't have been easy after #Gish.
- I don't think that I really appreciated "Meditations" when I first read them in my early 20s. They make a lot more sense now. I have also come to realise that I had been practising elements of stoicism for years without knowing it.
- A fantastic opportunity!
- I am accepting applications for a postdoc to work with me at the University of Toronto Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. Area of Research: Democratic Institutions, Public Engagement, American History Due by February 23rd munkschool.utoronto.ca/current-oppo...
- There are always borders of the mind.
- "The Power of the Dog" is epic, brutal and dark in equal measure. I love the story and its sweltering and violent geographical setting. It's probably true that the US Mexico border can be like hell on earth for those who are up to no good. @penguinbooksusa.bsky.social
- I have been re-watching a lot of films recently. "Her" (2013), written & directed by #SpikeJonze was very touching. I like how it handled the impacts of technology on romantic relationships. A great character for Joaquin Phoenix to have played. He was so convincing and desperate.
- Nice one for also including the director's cut @88films.bsky.social. Great movie.
- Uhuh...
- #MiamiVice remains one of the best TV shows I ever did see.
- #JonathanRaban was a very talented writer with an eye for the smallest details and an uncanny ability for incisive political commentary. It's all in #PassagetoJuneau Another book I have revisited. I loved the journey.
