Unraveling the secrets of bacterial injection needles .. (among other things)
- Big congrats to @atejadaarranz.bsky.social and co-authors on this paper showing novel insights into the resistance to #T6SS effectors and an unexpected link to antibiotic resistance! Thanks @nccr-antiresist.bsky.social for funding and supporting the collaboration with the Jenal lab! rdcu.be/eShqI
- Update to BacFighT6, with presets for easy exploration of complex behaviors: sites.google.com/view/bacfight6 Try "battle royale" preset where prey (blue) produce capsule, attackers (red) move towards prey and feed on it, defenders (orange) retaliate! Took a while to eliminate the reds!
- Happy to share our latest T6SS review: nature.com/articles/s41... Thank you, Jan, Danny (@dannyjamesward.bsky.social), Joana (@joanampereira.bsky.social), as well as reviewers and editors @natrevmicro.nature.com!
- Major update to BacFighT6: sites.google.com/view/bacfigh... Simulate the role of motility/chemotaxis, capsule production, activation by autoinducers, contact dependent killing, kin-exclusion, foraging and more. Long simulations, extensive data import/export and analysis. Interactive Q&A!
- Check out the NotebookLM powered interactive Q&A: sites.google.com/view/bacfigh... This is based on the scientific literature and the simulation code. Literature is cited in the help and the documentation. Extremely helpful!
- The prey (blue) multiply, don't move and produce capsule (purple). The predators (red) move towards prey and attack non-kin. They divide only if they lyse prey. The defenders (orange) move randomly and defend themselves by retaliation (divide if they lyse a cell). Who wins?
- To make our research more approachable, I used #Gemini to develop (mostly by #vibecoding) a simulation of #T6SS mediated bacterial interactions. I hope that you'll have as much fun as I have with this and that you'll learn something new! sites.google.com/view/bacfigh...
- Happy to help William with his high school graduation project: inspiration.sjf.ch/the-role-of-... youtu.be/u0d72T9rRQg?... Congratulations! Thanks to @biozentrum.unibas.ch and @nccr-antiresist.bsky.social for support!
- Poke bacteria with a sharp needle and they poke back in just a few seconds! Congratulations to Mitchell (and others) for this analysis of Pseudomonas #T6SS assembly in response to membrane damage! Collaboration with Rod Lim's lab @biozentrum.unibas.ch www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
- Thank you, Katrin, for a great news article: Damaged but not defeated: Bacteria use nano-spearguns to retaliate against attacks biozentrum.unibas.ch/news/detail/... And the Swiss Nanoscience Institute for producing this video summary: youtu.be/0uOVdcOy3vQ?...
