It shows how Epstein was able to woo high-profile scholars with witty banter, promises of research funding, and help from a well-connected literary agent, despite not having a degree himself. www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty...

- The Epstein files offer a case study in how crimes of the powerful operate. Famous names; all aware what was going on. Elite harm needs only a system where accountability is permanantly deferred so the powerful remains powerful by escaping justice. #AcademicSky www.hindustantimes.com/world-news/u...
- This isn’t new. It is patterned and systemic. I analysed it 4 years ago in my #OpenAccess British Journal of Sociology article When men kill women, they shift blame and manufacture excuses to avoid punishment. #AcademicSky onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

- Reposted by Baris Cayli MessinaNoodling around the new Epstein releases; as before it’s interesting to see the concentric rings of academics (esp. Physicists, Philosophers, and Cog Sci types), from direct ongoing connection to JE, to grubbing for money/clout, to chattering-class brokerage via eg the Brockman/Matson hype channel.

- Somewhere in #Afghanistan, a girl who dreamed of becoming a doctor just learned that dream is now illegal permanently. And a state announced this on camera, proudly. Many states issued a statement and moved on. #Afghanwomen are not a footnote and we mustn't let amnesia do the work of complicity.

- #ICE functions as organised brutality against #immigrants. The Minneapolis killing shows what research confirms. This agency operates through terror, criminalises survival, deploy #racialisedviolence and kills with impunity. Institutions built on dehumanisation must be abolished. #AcademicaSky
- The UN headquarters is in New York. To host an institution you are destroying is absurd. This is autocratic nihilism. American exceptionalism is now American isolation, and autocrats worldwide are now probably celebrating this. Trump just handed Putin, Xi and every other autocrat another gift.
- A Prime Minister who studied law and knows exactly what the UN Charter is and why it exists, now speaking as if it were optional. This is nformed consent to illegality that chooses alignment over law, power over principle, and calling it the national interest. A sad statement for all British people.
- Reposted by Baris Cayli MessinaIt's an old and obvious pattern. An unpopular president - failing on the economy and losing his grip on power at home - decides to launch a war for regime change abroad. The American people don’t want to “run” a foreign country while our leaders fail to improve life in this one.
