- My all-time favorite singer is Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. I grew up in a non-Indian household and was never exposed to Hindustani vocals until after I graduated from university. As with most Westerners, I thought Hindustani vocals were strange...until I heard Bhimsen sing Tilak Kamod. 🧵
- I've been hooked ever since. That was back in 1997. I've listened to that recording hundreds of times over the years, maybe even thousands. You can listen to the recording on the brand new Tilak Kamod page I just built. bansuribliss.com/tilak-kamod 🧵Mar 16, 2025 06:13
- Fast forward a few decades...I'm in Dharwad – home, birthplace and/or teaching grounds of Kirana gharana legends Bhimsen Joshi, Gangubai Hangal, Sawai Gandharva and my singing guru Kumar Mardur and his father Somnath (in photo). So what better place to learn my favorite Tilak Kamod composition? 🧵
