Richard Baker
flickr.com/people/bakerart/ UK artist. Gallery shows in the past but mostly just twice a year at the Cambridge Drawing Society now. I don't sell paintings or prints by post. Woke.
- Light filtering through the trees in Christ's Pieces, a park in central Cambridge, watercolour and Indian ink, with a lady in a pink dress wheeling her bicycle. This one sold at an exhibition. #Cambridge #christspieces #watercolour
- My watercolour drawing of a pergola at the back of an Arts and Crafts house in Storey's Way, Cambridge. The architect of this beautiful house was M. H. Baillie Scott in 1912-13. The watercolour was completed on a sketch group visit in 2014 and I still have it. #watercolour #artsandcrafts #Cambridge
- Forget-me-nots will soon be flowering in our garden making these two resident stone rabbits happy!
- A garden painting with my old green bike, a couple of friends chatting and some of the usual clutter to be seen through the glass of the conservatory. Oil on board. I don't like the white aluminium conservatory so I hung lengths of ivy down it to break up the lines.
- And it works! In my opinion.
- Thank you! I didn't manage to make the glass of the conservatory look like glass (a few reflections needed) but it probably wouldn't have worked. It's OK though - I won't do any more to it.
- Watercolour and Indian ink street sketch of #PembrokeCollege, Cambridge. I seem to have done a lot of paintings and drawings of this beautiful college. Many are sold. I've put a collection of them in a Flickr album here: www.flickr.com/photos/baker...
- Pastel of Newnham Mill pond, Cambridge, with punts and the Granta pub. Note the ducks swimming through the water lilies in the foreground. #pastel #cambridge #newnham #punting
- Another still life, this time featuring pelargoniums, a wooden lizard and a wooden bird with a long beak, poppy seedheads and autumn colours in the leaves outside the studio window. That old earthenware pot with twisty handles is a favourite. Oil on gessoed board, 2019. #oilpainting #stilllife
- This flower still life includes my favourite African bust (bought years ago from an antiques fair). They had two and I wish I'd bought the other one. It has superb artistry and I can't do it justice. The hanging spoon in the background is really rough-hewn. I love that too. #stilllife #flowers
- Still life in oil sold at a Cambridge Drawing Society exhibition in 2020. This one shows quite a bit of impasto built up during the process of composition. #stilllife #roses #studio
