I mean, I get it, but how insane was it for Stede to see Ed holding a LITERAL tattered piece of fabric and go “oh that’s so pretty! I bet it would look so good here on your chest! I’ll just invade your personal space for a second. See! That looks great! You look really handsome. Goodnight!”

When he asked Ed if he was ok right before they get the invitation Ed had quickly shoved the fabric back in his pocket and Stede could have easily seen it then and made the connection that Ed was looking at it again for comfort.
